Are The Repugs Throwing The Nov 2018 Election?......

I spent a day with a Repug friend of mine yesterday as he was visiting from Montana. I wanted to avoid any discussion of politics because I didn't want to get into any arguments or leave on a bad note. He, however, initiated the discussion by saying the following: " I don't want you to judge me on my Republicanism - but I don't like Trump and want him to be gone too."

He then unloaded this theory to me. He said the Repugs are purposely throwing the Nov 2018 election and want Congress to go back to the Dems. He said that the Repugs don't want to be associated with 'impeachment' of Trump or 'one of their own'. They'd rather leave that up to the Dems to do - and then when it's done - they can unload on the Dems for the impeachment.

He said the Repugs don't want to piss off their Repug voter base anymore than it already is and that being in power during impeachment proceedings against Trump - would piss off a considerable portion of their base. They'd want to leave that task up to the Dems.

He said the Repugs are always better on the offense then they are on the defense and letting the Dems do the dirty work leaves the Repugs to take up the offensive position. He said that this was also the reason that Ryan will not seek re-election. He said Ryan has his sights on the presidency and if he had to be Speaker of the House during impeachment of Trump - wouldn't endure him to the Repug voter base.

I reflected on that last night and that prompted me to post this. Do you think their is any credence
to his theory?

1. They've seen the polls. They've seen the special election results.

They know they are well and truly in the shit. It's not so much that they are throwing it away, as they know what's coming.

In point of fact, the polls were actually not far off at all from the national result.

Anyone who looked at state level polls knew it was not a slam dunk. Do you remember all the people trashing Nate Silver because he WASN'T showing a Clinton victory as a sure thing?

At this point, even a large polling miss would not be enough for Mr. Trump to win — it will take a sudden and striking change in the fundamentals of the presidential race.

And that was just a few weeks before Election Day.

But the treason weasels still will be the deciding factor in the Senate, so appeasing the KKK, neo-nazis, and Putin will be still a problem for them.

They see the blue wave coming to drown them. They might as well take advantage of it.

But I'm thinking that a RepubliCON who stands up to Trump maybe more electable than one that runs away.

Even if the House were to impeach, there are not the votes in the Senate to convict and remove from office.

However, the POTUS is not above the law, and I think that while Republicans would love an unsuccessful impeachment by Democrats, their worst case scenario is Trump getting into so much legal shit that he leaves in disgrace on his own (or lawyer's advice). Yes, it gives them their fair godmother wish president, Ayatollah Pence, but the Trump stigma stops him from ever getting elected on his own. If a decent guy like Gerry Ford couldn't pull it off, nor can a piece of slime like Pence.

Ryan won't run, he'll be branded a "quitter." The 2020 presidential election has essentially been handed to us on a silver platter, much like 2008. The question is, will we blow a sure thing with the wrong nominee? I hope not.

There might be spoilers on our side, anyone from Kirsten Gillibrand to Bernie Sanders, but if we are smart, we'll overlook ego trips this time and unite behind a solid candidate in order to look forward. It's ours to lose, although we shouldn't underestimate our capacity to do just that.

It's folly to take it up in the House without the votes in the Senate.

Everyone thinks the dems are going to go bold when they get some influence back, but they won't. They will work with their colleagues across the aisle to help heal the nation. Bank on it. If Mueller doesn't destroy the GOP brand, we'll be back here again.

A losing candidate does not command as much money than a candidate who "retired" a winner. None of them want Cheetos marks on their resume.
