Here I sit in rural west central MI and I don't think I've experienced so much close cloud to ground lightning in my life. Some down pours, a touch of small hail, not much wind, but the lightning is incredible and persistent. Several instantaneous flash-booms, meaning they're within a mile.
I hope forest fire patrol is on this. We've not had much rain this summer and things are very dry here in the woods.
Radar shows a long band traveling W to E so we may all have a long night of thunder booms.
Be safe. Hope the power grid holds up.

(28,347 posts)here in TC. Power is still out. I'm posting from a my DROID. Life is so different without power. It's hot as hell in the house, even with the windows open. They say trees are down. Guess we'll find out tomorrow. But it was a bad storm, one we haven't seen in a long while.

(40,416 posts)Awesome lightning. Things are calm now, but the last radar I saw was a long line of severe weather. It has passed to the north now. Batten down, my friend.

(36,298 posts)Most of the lightning was off in the distance but there was one big flash of light almost immediately followed by a very loud boom. Rattled the windows.
