This Woman Was Caught Red-Handed While Dumping Her 4 Dogs, And Got What She Deserved

https://www.boredpanda.com/confronted-woman-abandoned-dogs-texas/
It’s heartbreaking to find abandoned animals left to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, there are many irresponsible people who throw their pets away, and some don’t even bother to take them to an animal shelter.

A good Samaritan from San Antonio, Texas, tried to intervene in just a situation. When she saw a woman throwing her 4 dogs out of the car in a vacated lot, she confronted the offender. In the recording she took, we can hear her clearly stating the consequences that may follow if the woman did indeed decide to ditch her pets.

The kind Samaritan tried desperately to reason with the dog-abandoner, but even after being given directions to animal care services the heartless woman proceeded to dump her dogs and drive away in the most infuriating manner. One of her passengers even had the gall to flip the bird to the camera.

After authorities were informed, three of the dogs were found and delivered to an animal shelter. But the 4th dog was missing. Luckily however, the callous ex-owner of these pets had a change of heart and helped to locate the last dog. She turned herself in after delivering the last dog to Animal care services. According to Texas law, an individual convicted of abandoning an animal may be sentenced to up to a year in county jail, and a fine of up to $4,000.

Let’s hope that this whole sorry episode will teach her, and other people, to take responsibility for their pets.

by their owners. This is cruelty, plain and simple. Many times they would be pregnant females. We took in several dogs and cats over the years. We kept some and tried to find homes for others, but we couldn't take them all.

It may sound callous, but it would be more humane to have an animal euthanized than to dump them like this woman did. It is very rare that these animals find homes when they have been abandoned like that. They are prone to disease, starvation, being run over or being shot. Sometimes they join together to form packs which can be dangerous to pets, livestock and even humans.

He was the sweetest, most mellow, loving and adorable dog I’ve ever met in my life. It’s possible he slipped out of his collar and ran away but the rescue suspected he was dumped just like this. My hunch was that he was loved by an elderly person and when they died or went into a nursing home the family dumped him. I’ll never know for sure.

I can’t even begin to imagine a scenario where I could abandon him. I don’t even want to think about the kind of people who could. Sadly I said goodbye to him last summer and I miss him every second of every day.

Thankfully for us it's not a whole lot & mostly cats. Unfortunately farms that are closer to the military base get a lot more.

It doesn't help that the shelters are often so overcrowded that they simply can't accept more and the military won't help people keep their pets or find homes if needed. It's gotten to the point where an increasing amount of people and organizations up here won't adopt out an animal to a military family anymore. It's unfortunate that folks feel they have to do this because the irresponsible 'pets are disposable' bunch are ruining it for the responsible & caring ones who will gladly do backs flips to 'always' take their fur family with them where ever they go.

I don't know how it is in that location but many shelters will kill dogs that don't get adopted quickly.

A misguided person might think having them fend for themselves outside would be more humane. And then there are some cultures that are opposed to spaying/neutering animals but are in favor of killing them yourself if you don't want them.

I know people who go to great lengths to adopt unwanted shelter animals that are about to be put down. Some of them are good pets. Some are aggressive and bitey.

Our county has a microchip program for dogs, and it's possible they might also do it for cats. Dogs are more likely to get "lost" or abandoned than cats. By scanning the microchip (inserted under the skin) the authorities will know who owns the dog and where they can be found. Of course somebody could move away, but at least they know who is responsible for the animal.

Loose dogs are more likely to run in packs and perhaps attack a child or small person. There's always a danger that a dog is more likely to get rabies from another animal such as a raccoon or skunk. Abandoned are dangerous to the entire community as we all know, and certainly unfair to the dog.

someone once dumped 3 kittens in 3 separate office buildings, apparently rode up elevators, shooed them each out onto a floor, and left.

We only knew about the one in our building. Of course the first thing was to determine if someone who belonged there had somehow lost it, and at the end of the day, after being cooed over and played with in various offices, someone took her home. Potted trees made good potty places. Over the next few days we learned about the kittens in other buildings, who also went home to new families.

a few days after we had lost a dog, we got a call from a next-door-neighbor saying "We heard you'd lost a dog. Our daughter found a dog. If you don't want her we'll have to take her to the pound." I was still in mourning for Dusty (who had not been a good dog, but she was my dog), but we walked over, the whole time me muttering "It's too soon. It's too soon..."

We were met at the gate by a young long-haired Dachshund, and my mutterings became "It's too soon. It's a Dachshund!"

I have always had a soft spot in my head for Dachshunds, having had a short-haired one for many years from late teens. If you have never had one, I recommend them highly. They pack a lot of personality into those little bodies. And Sarah had it in spades.

We had Sarah for about twelve years, before she died of congestive heart failure*. During that entire time, I frequently said that if we could have found the person who had moved away, and left her behind, I wasn't sure which I would do first: thank them for the wonderful companion or punch them out for abandoning such a sweet and beautiful girl.

But I would have done both.

* (As I type this, I have a Dachshund mix from Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles sleeping with her head on my leg).

She said the owner of the dogs reached out to her after the video gained widespread exposure, prompting a tide of outrage.

Melendez said the dogs’ owner told her that her landlord learned that she had more dogs than agreed upon and threatened to evict her if she didn’t take action. According to news reports, she enlisted her brother, sister and sister’s boyfriend to get rid of the dogs.

“Tell them I panicked,” Melendez recalled the woman’s request to tell people commenting on the video. “I didn’t know what to do.”

is a bullshit excuse. There are plenty of ways to get animals, if not wanted, new homes.

At least, advertise, ask around friends/family/neighbors/etc., animal shelters, special animal associations such as Stray Rescue of St. Louis, an excellent organization that has gone out into the furthest reaches of MO to rescue many animals (in the rural parts of MO, there are many many areas w/ no shelters, nothing, for animals).

Am proud to have this organization here and doing this for our 4-legged and multi-legged friends, who don't have these 'firebreaks' to protect them.

Thanks to the good person(s) that took in the dogs temporarily until new homes found.

To the person(s) that dumped these beautiful animals...just think, when people are cruel to animals, I have heard studies that such persons are the same towards humans. So when things get tough(er) for this lady and her friend that dumped these beautiful animals, will they dump their human babies or kids?

I put a hex on this lady and her friend...perhaps the authorities will do more to her and her companion, who knows? My love and blessings go out to these beautiful animals, who look like they have no idea of what just happened.

My folks and I ran a mobile home park behind a Missouri state park, and one of the unfortunate things that we had to deal w/, is the abandoned dogs (and cats too) that people dumped behind the state park in an isolated area (so no one could spot them). We tallied 27 animals over the years (from mid 1980s onwards).

There is a good side to this story however. I have now 3 daughters of one of these abandoned dogs (via 2 liters same mother), and these 3 are the most loving, most caring, and wonderful beings I have ever had the honor to be with. Maybe we can comfort ourselves w/ the fact that perhaps in some of the cases of abandonment, some good will come out of it.

Reminds me of that commercial David Ducovny used to do for the ASPCA--Why am I here? I'm a good dog.

I've heard of dogs that lay down where they were dumped, and wait for their humans to come back to get them. Sometimes for days. That just kills me.

I have no patience or sympathy for people that would do this. Its why we have 20+ cats on our farm. People just dump them, especially the pregnant ones. We recently adopted another Great Pyrenees (3 now!). The people were moving for a new job, and couldn't take her. She's six, and they'd had her since she was found as a puppy, tied to a tree at an abandoned house. She's having a bit of trouble adjusting to the two boys, but incredibly sweet dog.

The woman was in a tough situation but there are better ways to handle it. Taking the animals to the shelter, even if ultimately euthanized, is a better solution than having them suffer and starve. Domesticated pets are mostly not capable of surviving in the wild.
