https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/29/americas/migrant-caravan-us-border-crossing/index.htmlAbout 110 years ago there were no caravans, just boats. Boats brought people from other countries to the United States from Europe and Asia, and many other places too. Now, there were few laws about entering then, but you did have to read a language. My grandparents read Yiddish. So they entered along with millions of others from all over the world. They came from Russia.
..Those laws were changed after World War I. (1924 to be exact) Quotas, restrictions and so on. But before WWI, very few restrictions. New comers had to stay at Ellis Island for a week in order to prove they were not carrying tuberculosis, but aside from the reading restriction, millions came. So, here I am, a grandson of someone seeking a new life in the U.S.A.
..People still want to come here for the same reason. Opportunity to raise a family in safety and freedom. Times have changed. Back then there were huge neighborhoods of newcomers in cities, called ghettos. People came and after time their children spoke English and were assimilated. It took time as it always does. But among many today, there is no real acceptance of these newcomers. Among many who do not want these people, there is hate, fear, and anger. Who want them? Why should they be allowed? They will cause crime...etc...
The laws have changed, and many in the U.S. do not want "newcomers." , and desire to keep them out. I am not one of those. I say give them the same chance my grandfather and grandmother had. Why not? I turned out ok, as did millions of others and their families.

(83,720 posts)Have already given much in all walks of life. We should welcome them as are great-grandparents once were. Not an easy acceptance, yet many have changed our life for the better.

(508 posts)...Union organizers in Central and South America, those countries could move towards having stable economies.
The problems with the economies south of the American border is the way workers are treated. Treating them as disposable peasants just perpetuates the poverty, the crime, and their desire to get out of their countries at any cost.
The most viable economies, and happiest people, tend to be the Scandinavians and other Europeans who have the highest rates of Unionized workers on the planet.

(508 posts)Yep, there would be.
But the pressure would be greatly reduced if their home economies were built around treating workers decently.
The shame is that so much of the problem stems from the fact the US government is determined to keep workers in poverty.

(35,454 posts)He's going to keep those humble people out of our country any way he can. Wonder how many guns the little ones and moms are carrying so as to rob us while their rapist escorts plot even more devious crimes. Bet there are even explosives hidden on those buses. Thank God we're saved.
Sad. Donny and his friends do not need guns to rob the American people or rape and pillage us all. They do not need those things, they have what they need, White Privilege.
