oh, sure, they've only passed one piece of significant legislation -- a tax bill, as if that's an achievement for a republican white house given republican majorities in both houses of congress.
and oh, sure, they're incompetent at hiring and keeping people.
but this is judging them by our tired old standards, as if their goals are in some way familiar to us. enact laws, effect change through regulation and enforcement and policy.
ha!
this administration doesn't care about those standards.
the only thing this administration has ever cared about (aside from stuffing donnie's pockets and puffing up his ego) is to turn america into a white nationalist society.
and they've been hard at work pushing that agenda through tweets and sneers and jeers and speeches and everything they do all day long.
and all we've been doing is objecting to it, exactly as they expect second-class citizens to react.
but they've been turning the national dialog into a white nationalism dialog for well over a year now, and while we're busy laughing at the turnover in the cabinet and the legislative failures, they're etching our collective brains with the pathways of tribalism and constantly reinforcing the notion that white men are top dog.
they're fighting a different war and they can't be judged by the usual standards or fought with the usual strategies.

(4,103 posts)they're too incompetence to accomplish any lasting change, they're basically an untrained bulldozer operator plowing through everything without building anything structured in its place. Most of what has been done can be quickly undone, however the wealth lost through their looting will not return, which is the real tragedy, we'll be another 10 trillion in the hole with nothing to show for it

(52,116 posts)will republicans stick with the overt bigotry?
or will they return to their carefully coded hate?
something in-between?
or can we really hope that all that crap is so discredited it all gets pushed to the fringe?
my fear is that what gets discredited is only donnie and his cronies and the entire republican party just goes back to business as usual without any apologies or regrets and continues to feed red meat to their hate monster.

(3,115 posts)Roll back environmental protections, bring slimeballs back into the government (Bolton, Ghouliani), load up the courts with unqualified conservative wingnuts, drain the treasury, and yes, line the pockets of Donnie, the other Pukes and big business.
But the Deplorables are so happy that they can feel free to hate everyone now, Dumpster Diver is their god.
