Former U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson announced Tuesday morning that hell mount a primary challenge against his successor, Rep. Darren Michael Soto, setting up a major primary fight that Florida and Washington Democrats had hoped to avoid.
Grayson, who had flirted with running for another congressional seat, indicated to WFTV in Orlando that he doesnt care what party elites think of his decision to run for the Democratic nomination in Floridas 9th congressional district in Orlando.
I dont need anyones permission to run for office. What Ive done is ask the people, Grayson told the station. I can run anywhere in the state; I could run from Key West to Pensacola.
The primary will be a rematch of last names between Soto and Grayson. Soto beat Graysons wife, Deena Grayson, and Graysons former adviser, Susannah Randolph, in the 2016 Democratic primary for the seat, which is heavily Democratic. Soto is the first member of Floridas congressional delegation of Puerto Rican descent, and the seat has a sizable Puerto Rican voting population thats expected to become more active this year as Hurricane Maria survivors continue to flock to Central Florida.

Grayson, the blatant sexist, will make Soto's wife one of the cornerstones of his campaign.
Offshore Alan is a pig.

(30,481 posts)Offshore Alan is targeting the greenest member of the Florida delegation and a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. I don't think the sexist abusive pig will get his campaign off the ground.

(42,307 posts)District 11. We've got a solid Democrat on the ballot here, she's a good choice to run against our useless R critter. Grayson would have screwed that up royally.
