President Trump wants to step up efforts to protect Republican control of the House in hopes of avoiding an impeachment debate and congressional investigations if Democrats seize the chamber, according to GOP sources.
It is super important to the White House and really the whole White House is very focused on it, said a source familiar with strategy talks about protecting the House majority.
The president is expected to dial up efforts in this regard during and after the August recess, the source added.
While Democratic leaders in the House are playing any talk of impeachment very carefully, the idea of impeaching Trump has strong support within the partys liberal base.

(508 posts)First off, the Democrats would not be able to either impeach in the House, or convict in the Senate, without getting enough republican't votes to bring the totals to a 2/3 majority in both chambers.
Secondly, the republican'ts can't go after TraitorTrump when the leadership of the republican't party are so deeply involved in the traitors' conspiracy themselves. So, expecting anything more than a tiny bit of support from them is not going to happen.
Thirdly, the Democrats saw what happened when the republican'ts impeached and failed to convict Bill Clinton. Public opinion turned against the republican'ts. They lost a bunch of Congressional seats in the next election.
The current Democrats don't want to fall into the trap of talking about impeaching the traitor when they know it is a losing proposition so many ways.
No impeachment is going to happen unless it is the republican'ts themselves who decide to save their party from TraitorTrump's disastrous regime.
Discussing it in DU will falsely get some people's hopes up when the Democratic Leadership is trying to get everyone to think realistically.

(22,035 posts)The vote to impeach in the House only requires a simple majority. It's in the Senate that a 2/3's super-majority is required, i.e., 67 votes.
I concur with the rest of your post.

(508 posts)You are correct about the House only needing a simple majority to impeach.
