The comedienne they hired made some good cutting remarks about almost everyone, but the thing that had the right wing up in arms were the comments about Sarah H Sanders, a portion of which appears above re: burning facts and using the ash to get the perfect Smokey eye.

I did not watch the dinner but I have heard lots of talk about it and many references to that particular joke being so horrible and offensive.

I just don't get that particular joke. I still don't. she burns facts, which means she lies. I get that. I don't get the part about the ashes being used for makeup. and I don't see why that particular joke is so offensive.

First of all just so you know right off the bat, it was not a horrible thing or an insult. It was mostly to point out that Sarah Huckabee Sanders lies all the time during the press conferences.

Shortly after she became the spokesperson for the daily press briefing Trump evidently didn’t like the way she looked on TV. He demands that all the women who work in the White House wear dresses and look good, by his standards. Sarah then changed her makeup and started wearing a lot of it, with false eyelashes and that smoky look. It’s mostly worn in the evenings and not at work. The internet was full of commentary about it, both pro and con. Even DU was raging and fighting about it.

Michelle Wolf used this particular famous, or infamous makeup thing to joke that Sarah lies so much that she burns facts and uses the ashes to apply the heavy handed makeup on herself. Only Wolf called it the perfect smoky eye.

Wolf was not attacking Sarah’s looks, but she did attack the way she lies. As to whether it was funny or not, that’s subjective, so to many people it won’t be funny. It’s probably more in the realm of exaggeration, mainly because Sarah applies the makeup in such an exaggerated way.

I hope this helps.

Oh, and the Right and some in the press started screaming about it being a terrible insult to poor Sarah because they were desperate to deflect attention away from what Michelle Wolf said about them.
