First death reported from E. coli-contaminated romaine lettuce

First death reported from E. coli-contaminated romaine lettuce as outbreak spreads
By Joel Achenbach May 2 at 3:22 PM

The nationwide food poisoning outbreak from E. coli-contaminated romaine lettuce has claimed its first fatality, an unidentified person in California, and the infections have sickened a total of 121 people in 25 states, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Wednesday.

That is an increase of 23 people and three states — Kentucky, Massachusetts and Utah — since the most recent CDC update on Friday.

Thanks. I usually get salads from restaurants, and who knows where their romaine came from. Panara Bread at least is taking this seriously. They are offering substitute greens and suspended some salads.

Let's see how responsive the Trump administration is to this public health concern. Donald doesn't look like he's much of a salad eater (though I could be wrong), so it wouldn't surprise me if this doesn't get too much attention. Now, if people were keeling over from contaminated spray tan products, that would merit an all-out response.

to grow your own no doubt. I’m kinda paranoid about buying any kind of greens now.

He’s been eating a lot of salads lately and is in a state where there have been illnesses from lettuce.

He was pretty convinced he had e.coli. He’s 18, and away at college for the first time. I told him to keep hydrated and try some OTC meds. Oddly, that’s what urgent care told him too. But, they tested him for appendicitis and e.coli.

I haven’t bought lettuce since the outbreak. I’m growing some greens but they aren’t quite salad material on their own. I’m going to buy some lettuce starts this weekend to grow some.
