I am no leagal scholar, but the argument that the president's authority under the constitution

has no limitations, seems to be ridiculous. All of us have the right to freedom of speech, but that doesn't give us the right to commit perjury. If the president in the prosecution of his duties under Article II can't commit a crime, then he could walk into Jim Comey's office, shoot him in the head and declare that he had just removed him as head of the FBI.

To be a President, and there has to be rule of law for everyone, or someone will abuse the privilege, and there has to be rule of law to have justice equally for everyone, or it can't be called justice. He wants the Department of trump justice where only he is the judge, jury , and executioner. God help us if they give him that. His cruelty will escalate and he'll go after all who won't bow down to his demands.

3. Republicans have enjoyed spouting this, whenever they are in power, at least since the Nixon era

It is usually said with a nice and-you-can't stop-us smirk

When they are not in power, on the other hand, they prefer to shriek loudly that almost anything is evidence of imminent tyranny

It apparently works on some people with memory deficits

4. The only limiting factor is Congress. But only for what he does as President.

The Founders made the mistake of believing that people elected to high office would be, for the most part, honest, honorable, and of good character & good faith. People like the current crop of RW ne'er-do-wells & criminals were never envisioned to be in the majority.

6. If the President were above the law, he could do worse than that

He could order the army to surround Capitol Hill and order Congress to pass laws he dictates, and the army would have to obey him. Impeachment would be impossible of course.

There is no way the founders believed they were allowing such a big loophole in the Constitution.
