Facebook Wants To Let The Heritage Foundation Decide What's News

Yesterday, Axios reported that Facebook was reaching out to some groups in an effort to keep the social media giant from hemorrhaging any more trust, by which we mean money. Worried that they might be the catalyst for degrading public discourse, and to make it seem like Mark Zuckerberg actually gives a fuck, Facebook is bringing in a super powerful law firm and … the Heritage Foundation.

Facebook will be holding a conservative-only bias review led by former Arizona Republican Sen. Jon Kyl. Kyl has a famously loose interpretation of “facts,” once questioning the definition of middle class, and walking back lies about Planned Parenthood made on the Senate floor by saying his comment was “not intended to be a factual statement.”

Klon Kitchen, the Heritage Foundation’s resident right-leaning techie, has already been brought in to lecture Facebook on how to make safe spaces for conservatives on the Internet.

1. OK, I don't intend to hijack this thread, but it's interesting that

looking at my Facebook ad info, Americans For Prosperity was listed 20+ times.
It was under the section of 'advertisers you've interacted with' and it was shocking to see AFP state chapters listed.
I rarely use FB, limit what I post, have 'privacy'/ad options set as tight as possible, and have never interacted with AFP.

Is this part of the Koch-fueled media takeover?
Anyone care to check out their FB ad data to see if this has happened to you?

That I pass all the time and I look over and there's an Americans for Prosperity Office. I had no idea. I'm not sure it's still open - doesn't show up on google.

I got disgusted with it years ago, and I think it's worse now than it was back then.

ignore it, or better yet, ignore FB. Unfortunately lots of folks rely on FB to keep in touch, but there are other ways to do this, e.g., a simple email from your internet carrier to your friends and/or family, a phone call, etc.

I can't get over the fact that so many people seem to rely on this digital platform, when there are so many other vehicles of communicating to the outside world.

Facebook reminds me of the cat poster at my vets office; the one that warns if you don't spay or neuter your pet the population grows and grows and soon 'everyone knows everything about you'!

10. that points out the need to transcribe/digitize large parts of the talk radio propaganda operation

because that's what gives think tanks like heritage power and is to a large degree why we have trump. facebook and camb anal were used for targeting but the much of the material was based on months and years of talk radio repetition.

AI makes it a lot cheaper faster and accurate to transcribe large samples of the talk radio gods (eg $5/hr at sonix.ai).

when the content and repetition from those radio stations can be studied quantified and finally debunked at the main source, before it can be established as alternate reality.

13. Why does Zuckerberg not understand that conservatives news is "fake news"?

It's why are in this fucking mess in the first place. Fox News is treated like it is equal to any of the other news outlets, when it is pure propaganda channel.

I want some rich liberal or a group of them to buy Fox News and shut it down.

(As an aside and in trying to do my part in eradicating Fox News, I change the channel to something else whenever it is on the gym locker room. Why the locker room HAS to have a TV is beyond me. I'm looking for a more permanent solution to this, because someone always switches it back. Thinking about finding the parental controls on the tv and blocking Fox but I haven't had the time.)

Just imagine, an open-source social network, owned by the users, with *no* data mining and *no* abuses of privacy.
