Something about Giuliani
that I haven't heard much about, is his connections with prosecutors and the FBI in the Southern District of New York. Giuliani knew Comey was going to issue the letter reopening the Clinton investigation before anyone else. The leak was out of the New York FBI office.
The raid of Cohen's office was not carried out by Mueller, but rather by the DOJ's SDNY office. That investigation is not limited to a Special Prosecutor's mandate. That investigation can go wherever the evidence leads. I think Trump might be more frightened of that investigation than Mueller's since it may uncover years of illegal activity. Trump needs influence and an inroad to that prosecutor's office and that may be why they will tolerate Giuliani's antics.

1. Seth Abramson has written extensively about this. But, it was a group of RW FBI agents
with whom Giuliani had remaining contact--largely retired but those who remained in contact with active agents.
By contrast, recent prosecutors with SDNY that have appeared on various MSNBC shows have made pretty clear that Giuliani's time in that office was so long ago that he has few connections there.. The unsaid sense was that he is NOT respected there as he ONCE was.. So I don't get the sense at all that Giuliani has any influence on SDNY investigation beyond that normally afforded to a defense attorney and as an extension to Mueller's investigation. But, yes, I'm sure Trump is more concerned about that investigation and apparently with good cause... Even more so because the NY State Attorney General may well be investigating (and sharing info) that could lead to state charges as well. |

2. After the harm Trump has inflicted on the FBI
It's kinda doubtful many support Trump any longer.

3. No doubt that featured in Giuliani's audition for the job.
Even a dumbass like Trump has to have given a thought to state-level prosecutions.

4. That was widely reported at the time. The Washington Post wrote quite a bit about Giuliani's
long-standing ties to the FBI. BTW, the main advantage of involving the NY office rather than Mueller's office is that Trump can't pardon anyone for a State crimes, only Federal crimes.

5. Or, maybe it was Giuliani who helped Cohen make the decision to pay Stormy in the
first place? Maybe he was involved from the start?
