Some photos here I dont recall seeing, even in Sousas book, and many I had seen, but even the ones weve seen are worth viewing again. Check out the link to see the explanations below the photos. He visited so many places where people were in distress. There is one with a bunch of kids right after Sandy Hook happened. Many more at the link. I just posted the ones I don't recall seeing.

(55,528 posts)then their friends' friends would come up to me while I was on recess duty or just walking between buildings and give me a hug since they "heard" that I was nice and fair and stuck up for them. That was always such a huge compliment to me. Being kind is still a value that the little kids still have...too bad it doesn't last.

(31,261 posts)If I had kids, I would work to raise them to eat as little sugar as possible, outside of an occasional treat like cookies or ice cream, but maybe once or twice per month. I found out that sugar causes my skin in dark areas to develop scabby, dry spots. Took a Dermatologist almost a year and a number of test before a tester in a lab discovered high sugar levels in biopsie samples. Was a shocking discovery, but here is the thing, the doctor found only part of the problem for one part of my body, turn out spots in another region that the doctor thought was sun exposure damage turned out to also be related to sugar. I cut way back on sugar and problems started going away, still have some work, but the worst areas are slowly coming back to normal color.
I can't eat commercial peanut butter or bread without breaking out on the thighs, buttocks and waist. I gave up jelly and jam a while back, even the unsweetened stuff. My "dessert" when I have it are a few pieces of raw fruit like orange slices and some melon.
I would suspect that any child that I father would carry genes for that problem, if not have it outright. I would want to save them some grief by teaching them how to live with a minimal sugar diet.
BTW, I don't have diabetes, my body just wigs out when I consume what for many people is a low amount of sugar.

(55,528 posts)I was reading about Fran Drescher last night and she realized what we eat and put on our skin is really important to overall health and thinks it contributes to the high rates of cancer. She cut out all alcohol (tons of sugar) too and feels a lot better and has more energy. I read stuff like this all the time.

(5,112 posts)Happy because I think President Obama was the best person elected to the Presidency in my lifetime...
Happy because when I see pictures of President Obama with kids, it reminds me of my dad, who had the same gift with children...
Sad because he's no longer the President...
Sad because my father passed away 8 years ago, and I find occasion most days to miss him...
Sad because so many people couldn't or wouldn't recognize the caliber of human being that President Obama is, and decided to go in the opposite direction...

One baby is clearly reaching out with a "get me away from this guy" signal and the other is just plain miserable.
[sigh] Welcome to the world, little one. With any luck, by the time you are old enough to vote, the generation ahead of you will have restored some sanity and integrity to the democratic process.
caraher
(6,364 posts)especially in contrast with what's in the Oval Office now. It's clear how much Obama meant to so many of these kids!
But I found particularly poignant the one where he is shading the baby's eyes. Compare that to how Trump treats not just strangers but his own family. Care and concern for others are simply not a part of Trump's world, in any way
