Question: was Rudy Giuliani ever anything more than a self-aggrandizing creep? I paid no attention to him before 9/11; despite media adulation, he was actually terrible right away: remember when he wanted to stay in office despite end of term? Was he ever good for anything?

(7,397 posts)Thanks Rudy. Pound a couple more nails in the coffin before you eventually get fired like everyone else.

(2,959 posts)thing. Pretty good lawyer, pretty smart guy, but this is what I've always found very troubling. All of them say "I would not let my child be alone in a room with him". notice that sentence is in quotes. it's the one common denominator among a group of around 8 people.
I have never met him but I trust the diverse opinions of those I know who have met and know him.

(22,976 posts)He also worked on the Long Island Democratic Party Committee in the mid-1960s, and voted for George McGovern for president in 1972.
He turned independent in 1975, and became a Republican in 1980 when Reagan was elected.
It seems he's drifted to where the power-center is at any given time. Or, he's another one of those Charlton Heston-types who were once on the left, but as they aged, went hard-right. Like Jon Voight, or even Ronald Reagan himself.

(57,081 posts)"grifting self-aggrandizing creep" Without a disaster to stand behind or in front of he a philandering putz with nothing to say. Is it true his first wife was a cousin?
His marriage history matches cheetolini's. They probably trade cheat secrets.

(6,819 posts)Donald. Both love the limelight and the ladies, and hung out at various charity and social events schmoozing and slinging their own brand of self-aggrandizing BS. Birds of a feather. Except Giuliani actually has some brains. Too bad they are disappearing as well.

(43,049 posts)he seemed to piss off other US attorneys by screwing up things like RICO so they couldn't use it the same way.
Other than that, on 9/11 and other emergencies and tragedies, he always stole the mike from police and fire dept chiefs and spokespeople. It would be odd seeing him standing in front of the police and fire commissioners and not letting them talk.
Previous Mayors kept City Hall pretty much open. There were cops on duty, of course, but they were always laid back. Ed Koch used to hold ceremonies and celebrations on the steps with us milling about. Once, I watched him give Dolly Parton the keys to the city, and she thanked him by doing an unexpected short set. Everybody had a great time.
City Hall Park was a place a lot of us used to grab a sandwich and sit under the trees reading, talking, or even smoking a little weed. Again, the cops were cool, and it you weren't too obvious or starting shit, they left you alone. Giuliani built a wall around the park and the building and had fully armored shock troops guarding the place.
It is unverified, but a NYC cop told me that one New Year's Eve Ghouliani ordered city hospitals to keep victims of violence on life support until after midnight so their deaths would go into next year's statistics. The hospitals told him to go fuck himself.
Ghouliani did chase the hookers off Canal Street and into New Jersey. He cleaned up a few other things, too, most of which didn't need that much cleaning.
And he hated ferrets. Ferrets as pets were illegal at the time but a fairly large number of ferret owners wanted to change that. He took the challenge on as a personal affront and declared no one should own a ferret and anyone who wanted to was not normal and not welcome in the city.
