Two weeks ago, President Trump finally found a new attorney to lead the understaffed team handling his response to the Russia probe: his old friend Rudy Giuliani. Through public statements, apparent leaks, and the exit of White House lawyer Ty Cobb (who advocated for cooperation with Robert Mueller), the former New York mayor signaled that he was cleaning up Trumps legal team. From now on, they would be a unified force making aggressive, carefully calculated moves to undermine the special counsel.
Then in his very first TV interview as Trumps attorney, with Trump shadow adviser Sean Hannity no less, Giuliani contradicted the presidents stories on potential obstruction of justice, the Stormy Daniels affair, and even his relationship with fixer Michael Cohen.
In response to Hannitys first softball whats the status of the Russia investigation Giuliani basically confirmed that he leaked Muellers questions for Trump (which were actually composed by the presidents attorneys) as part of an effort to paint the special counsel as unfairly biased. Then he offered up a brand-new explanation for why Trump fired FBI director James Comey:
He fired Comey because he would not, among other things, say that he was not a target of the investigation. Hes entitled to that. Hillary Clinton got that, and he couldnt get that. So he fired him, and he said Im free of this guy and he went on Lester Holt [Trump] said I did it because I felt that I had to explain to the American people their president was not the target of the investigation.

Remember when Trump said he was only going to hire "the best people"? It seems now he's gone from hiring "the best people" to channeling his inner Bart Simpson and claiming that nobody saw him do it, and that is true!
*audience laughs and applauds*
