The acting attorney general will be Barbara Underwood, the current state solicitor general, officials said.

"This morning, I'm grateful to work with the best colleagues in the business — including Barbara Underwood, who will be acting NY AG," wrote AG press secretary Amy Spitalnick.

"She's argued 20 cases before SCOTUS (the Supreme Court), clerked for Thurgood Marsh

--snip--
Underwood was a prosecutor for the Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan district attorneys and worked as a Yale Law School professor.

She also worked in the U.S. Attorney's office in Brooklyn.

Justice Marshall didn’t suffer fools, lightweights, apologists, or people with half-assed commitments to justice.

I think we’re good for now ...

he was my first judicial hero (yes, i was that weird kid who had judicial heroes) for (among other things) his absolute opposition to the death penalty. i believe the right to kill its subjects is a power no legitimate government should ever have. it was a very sad day for the nation when he passed and the supreme court has been on a downhill slide ever since the travesty of giving his seat to thomas.

i was just tickled by your post given your avatar of him.

poor choice of emoticons on my part as evidently it was open for an unintended interpretation.

is there an "apropos" or "well that's certainly fitting" emoticon?

i'll try to be more careful next time.

then again, i don't know, maybe he did have an awesome sense of humor, so maybe he was hilarious after all....

or will they take no action until the November election?

Underwood is currently (was) the Solicitor General of New York State.

she seems eminently qualified, but the legislature may want somebody younger so they can run for re-election in November and serve out a full 4 years - Alvin Bragg or Janet Sabol? Underwood will be 74 this coming summer.

I hope she brings Preet Bhara on board as he would be an excellent special deputy AG to handle the financial crimes and other crimes of the Orangehead Mafia as he’s already acquainted with them.
