and if you watch documentaries on the industry, the actors, and especially the actresses, are mostly supporting addictions or feel trapped by the work. I think it does feed into many mens perceptions of sex and even of women. If someone is objectified, they are to some degree, dehuminized.

That being said, we can't legislate it, but we do need to educate around it.

Because they often go in WITH those addictions first, coming from abuse, and so forth, and end up in a worse place.

And, naturally, talk badly about it afterward.

But for every one of those there are probably quite a few more that had good experiences, stuck with it a long time with great outlooks, and probably even started their own production companies out of it or moved up within one.

For every 100 laid waste by the industry, there might be one or two who come out with a good experience. Have you ever seen the documentary produced by Raseeda Jones? Worth seeing if you want to understand the industry.

There's problems to be had, just like any job.

I've watched a lot of the documentaries over the years on it. Not my first rodeo.

2. Porn, like almost all entertainment media, is a reflection of society
Tue May 8, 2018, 09:39 AM
May 2018

It is entertaining, scintillating, erotic, funny or sad because it speaks to something inside of us. Media, at its best, can lead us in new directions, identify aspects of us we did not know about or had shut our eyes to.

Porn does basically the same thing, but at a far more base, "forbidden" level.

It is really an interesting topic, and one that deserves a long discussion. For now though, I'll just say that having porn "reexamine itself" seems like an exercise in futility. Porn is pure commerce, pure capitalism. Producers are going to put out what sells. Period.

Tue May 8, 2018, 09:51 AM

Considering that between 40-50% of women watch porn these days

A huge number of women are self-producing content now and that the "classic/traditional" material is being pushed to the side (which makes them go further in trying to stand out).

More and more women are starting their own production companies and getting the awards for the content they produce.

Substitute porn for video games in your OP as well and look at that.

I believe it’s changing as well, but there is too much racist crap stilll, and there are sites with non-visual submitted stories that are just fine with pedophilia.

There is some porn that appears even self-mocking, with great story lines, but a lot of it is just fucked up. I’m not a fan, but I’m realistic, and since pornographers and pornography will always be with us, I like to see these trends with better content and more under the control of women, as it was and is, sexist as shit far too often.

When I'm on PornHub, for example, I tend to have subscriptions/feeds for actors that I like and specific genres. A lot of what I follow are the self-produced people that sell their stuff on ManyVids, for example. So you tend to not see a lot of that really racist or disturbing stuff.

I do think there's a lot more variety than there used to be, saying that as someone who has watched for the last 30+ years of my life and being online since the 80's. You're able to self-select what you want more too.

It's like saying all movies are superhero movies when it's far from the truth. Or all comic books are superhero comics. It's frustrating because it's hard to have any real conversation from there.

With Ron Jeremy? it’s a classic “bad” horror, film, but the actors work in the industry and it pokes gently fun at the porn industry while validating the actors as fully human.

The dehumanizing of the actors on the part of the viewer, is part of the problem with pornagraphy, so seeing Stormy Daniels for instance as a fully engaged women clearly making her own body choices is very encouraging. To tell you the truth I thought porn was beyond redemption. I’m still not a fan, but it’s amazing to see it change.

I found out what my lovers liked by just asking them. What’s so difficult about that?

why the lack of communication in a sexual situation. Just because porn depicts some heavy stuff, you are going to assume that’s what your play partner wants without asking her first? That’s the part I don’t understand.

My kids loved watching Smokey and the Bandit, but never thought when they turned 16 that’s how you drive a car in real life.

Yeah, I never understood that mindset but I've long gathered that part of it comes from upbringing, where if there's a very closed off interacation between child/parents then it warps things when you yourself end up in an adult relationship. I got the sense that people like that would have been like that regardless of porn.

of people driving cars. They were exposed to cars from the time they were born. Cars were just a part of life. Wouldn't it be amazing if we treated sex the same way? It's a part of life. People do it differently. Some ways are risky and some are down right dangerous.

may just be a perpetuation of male ego.

There are - and have been - a number of women who have another perspective on this subject.

We are seeing a remarkably broad backlash against men of power and privilege who are learning they are just a couple disclosures away from disaster.

Women know how ridiculously stupid men are when it comes to sex.

I'm not at all sure who is getting exploited here.
