Well, that was a Milkshake Duck moment if I ever saw it.

Just for reference:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milkshake_Duck

Milkshake Duck is an Internet meme that describes phenomena that are initially perceived as positive, only to soon after be revealed as deeply flawed.Oxford Dictionaries defined the term as "a person or character on social media that appears to be endearing at first, but is found to have an unappealing back story",but did not consider usage of the neologism to be sufficiently long-lived or widespread to warrant inclusion in their dictionaries.

The meme was started on Twitter on June 12, 2016 by Ben Ward, an Australian cartoonist using the online handle "pixelatedboat". The Twitter joke describes a fictional Internet viral phenomenon of a duck that drinks milkshakes, subsequently discovered to be racist. Ward described the Twitter message as "a pretty good joke summing up a recent trend" where popularity that comes via the Internet can be quickly washed away by discovering something troubling in a person's past.

Like most non-New Yorkers (and I'm guessing probably a fair amount of New Yorkers at that), I knew little to nothing about Eric Schneidermann up until about a year ago.

Then suddenly he explodes and is put forward as the brave, last line of defense in the Trussia investigation, there to stand up with non-pardonable state charges in the event the Mueller investigation gets derailed. There's all sort of buzz around him. Buzz about him becoming governor. Buzz about him eventually becoming President. Lots and lots and lots of buzz.

And then, literally in the course of an afternoon into an evening, his reputation completely self-destructs. It's gone, kaput. In less than 12 hours. I'm not kidding in saying that he had already resigned before I actually had the chance to read the things being alleged against him.

Now, the source of the allegations is reputable--we're not talking about the National Enquirer here. And the things alleged--if true--warrant him stepping aside from his job. Of course there's the matter of his timing. The whole timing thing is weird. Really really weird. Everything about the timing aspect of really fucking weird. Even if everything else is true, I'm still scratching my head about when the story broke.

But I digress. Luckily, the New York Attorney General's office is an office and institution, and not a single person, so whatever work they had been doing on Trussia, we can only hope whoever takes over will continue doing it.

Fictional film, but entirely accurate in it's execution. I believe it's on Netflix. It's worth watching.
