Earlier today on Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski raised the question of whether President Trumps decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal was really an effort to deflect from other story lines that is, from the many scandals now consuming the administration.
Our allies are upset, for sure, at a time when I think the presidents sanity is being questioned globally, Brzezinski said, adding that the totality of this presidents behavior and decisions raises the question of whether he has the moral compass to make a decision based on our own national security even, at this point.
This hints at a broader question, one that is sitting there right at the end of our noses: Is Trump capable of formulating or operating in accordance with any meaningful conception or vision of what is good for the country?
This question goes beyond the particulars of the Iran nuclear deal. On that front, you can read this Post editorial calmly demolishing the decision as a deeply reckless one that makes war more likely. Or you can read The Post fact-checking teams comprehensive debunking of the lies and distortions that Trump himself offered in explaining the decision.

Again and again and again, Trump has made decisions that are obviously not rooted in any meaningful effort to evaluate their substantive and moral complexities or potential consequences.

Even so it is completely shocking to see the depths of his depravity. And it is shocking to see how many around him are just the same.

(51,590 posts)and I was asking about someone I knew who I suspected was a sociopath and wanted him to explain it to me. He said, "Bigman Pigman (ha ha) half of the politicians out there are sociopaths". The person I was wondering about wasn't a politician but he made his point.

(3,608 posts)think this is all a deflection. He is purposely lowering our standing in the world and isolating us from allies and it benefits RUSSIA.

(17,175 posts)outside of Trump, everything is much clearer. If the national interest is served, fine -- but everything takes a back seat to:
. his need for ego stroking
. his obsession with revenge
. his lust for money
If one of his "decisions" serves the country well, it's purely dumb luck.

(3,335 posts)Iran and expects all our Allies to comply with as if now he is a dictator. I read an article this morning from CNN on my iPhone which said that he (Trump) finally got around to appointing an ambassador to Germany and they had been asking for one for the longest. So the new ambassador goes into Germany today on his first day and starts barking orders to the Germans to get their people out of Iran immediately. There was some pushback and they let our new Ambassador know that they didn't appreciate his coming there and dictating orders to them. As it turns out, some of the companies doing business there are planning to pull out but others are not as wiling. They feel that he did not consult with them before making his decision and should not expect that they all should just bow to his demands. They are not happy at all. Trump is destroying everything he comes in contact with. He thinks everyone is his underling and he can just treat people any way he wants.
I also believe that he's probably going to take this country to war with Iran sooner rather than later because the sanctions he's imposed on them are intended to break their backs, and that's probably why he's ordering everyone out of Iran but the Iranians, now. He also just boasted a few minutes ago to Military families who were visiting the WH that he just gave their spouses the biggest raise ever, and that they hadn't had one in 10 years, which is a lie. I just left federal service two years ago, and the military gets a pay raise every year, even when the federal employees get a pay freeze, the military gets one because no one wants to send a soldier whose pay you just froze into the middle east hellhole where they've been for the past 18 years.

Not a single cabinet pick, judicial nomination, executive order, or executive decision that this racist, ignorant, chicken hawk has made was even remotely for "the good of the country."
All I can say is, God help us all!
