NAACP motion to move Lee statue sparks debate (FL)

FORT MYERS, Fla. -
“Can you be honorable enough to admit that you are all the way pro-white and anti-black? Because that's the way it looks,” said Lee County NAACP President James Muwakkil.

Muwakkil is calling out Fort Myers city leaders for ignoring requests to take down a memorial of Robert E Lee ...

“I think the Robert E. Lee statue should stay. It's part of history. We need to stop changing history. It is what it is. We've learned from our mistakes. Let's move on,” said Liz Clement.

The Lee memorial was placed along Monroe Street in 1966 ...

... the city says they didn't put this statue up and have no control over it being taken down ...

... local NAACP chapter president James Muwakkil ... is asking the Daughters of the Confederacy to work with them on moving the statute from Monroe Street to a different location. "We are reaching out across the aisle, hoping for support."

Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson says he's encouraging the Daughters of the Confederacy and the NAACP to work on a solution for this statute ...
