There need to be some consequences https://newsone.com/3798939/lolade-siyonbola-sarah-braasch-yale-expelled/#.WvoE_8zuMY8.twitter
There has been national outrage over the incident and now Siyonbola, 28, is calling for Braasch, 43, to be expelled. In an interview with Good Morning America, she said, Someone who uses the police in the way that Sarah uses it should be held accountable. Braasch reportedly called the cops on another Black student a few months ago. Siyonbola continued, Whether thats expulsion [or] some other form of disciplinary action, there needs to be some punitive measures for people who act out of racially motivated bias.
She also told the morning show, I have always said to myself since Sandra Bland was killed, I said to myself if I ever have an encounter with police Ill film myself. Sandra Bland died in police custody in 2015 in Texas, and her family maintains it was not a suicide.
Braasch absolutely needs to be punished. While it is good that Yale President Peter Salovey spoke out, Braasch needs to be a clear example that this behavior is unacceptable. Anything less than that would be condoning her clear racism

The cops take longer getting to where they are really needed. Add to the above what such assinine white people are doing to the image of white americans in general.
There should be serious repurcussions for calling people with guns (the police) to threaten innocent people.

Sarah has two summa cum laude engineering degrees (aerospace and mechanical) from the University of Minnesota, as well as a JD from Fordham Law, and she is a member of the NYS Bar. Her secularism and womens rights advocacy (including with Ni Putes Ni Soumises in Paris, France) led her to obtain an MA in Philosophy, to address the sub-human legal status of the worlds women at the source, the philosophical foundations of law. Sarah is interested in applying game theory and cognitive science to the philosophical foundations of law, including international law. This endeavor encompasses her interests in practical reasoning and social ontology, as well as perceptual and social cognition, including language acquisition.
But this is the one that got me....
I Love Hate Speech: Sarah Braasch, the white woman who called police on Black Yale grad student for napping in dorm, defends slavery and supports burqa ban in writings
Sarah Braasch is also against hate crime legislation.

Sarah Braasch is the woman who called the police on a Black grad student napping in a common area of a residence hall, according to Yale News.
Braasch called the police when she saw Lolade Siyonbola sleeping, which resulted in Siyonbola being interrogated by police for nearly 20 minutes as they attempted to verify her student status. Despite demonstrating that she had a key to her room, a working Yale email address, and a student ID, the police questioned Siyonbola until they got confirmation of her student status in the schools database. Apparently, her name was spelled wrong in the system, delaying their ability to definitively verify her student status.
Siyonbola captured two videos of that evening and posted them to Facebook. One showed the neighbor, Sarah Braasch, filming her and telling Siyonbola that the common room is not for sleeping. The other video was of her interaction with police once they arrived. The videos have since gone viral.
Here are five things to know about Sarah Braasch, the woman who called the police on a fellow Yale graduate student for taking a nap in a common room.
1. She is working on her fifth degree
According to her bio on Yales website, Braasch is working on her fifth degree, a PhD in philosophy. She already has two engineering degrees, a law degree (shes a member of the New York State Bar), and a masters degree in philosophy. The bio says her masters in philosophy was obtained so to address the sub-human legal status of the worlds women at the source, the philosophical foundations of law.
2. She won a middle school class debate about the Civil War with pro-slavery arguments
In a 2010 blog post for Humanist, Braasch recalled a time in middle school when her classed was assigned to debate the pros and cons of slavery.
I know, in retrospect it seems a bit odd to me as well. But, in a sense, what better way is there to learn about any historical subject than to debate it? And rather than debate the subject from the perspectives of late twentieth-century teens, we approached it as if we were abolitionists or southern plantation owners during Abraham Lincolns presidency, she wrote.
Braasch continued:
I was placed on the pro-slavery side of the argument. I remember spending many an hour in the local public library poring over Time Life books And then I had a eureka moment. Somenot many, but someof the slaves didnt want to stop being slaves. A small number wanted to remain with their owners or return even after being freed. I knew I had just won the debate. And indeed, I did. I led our team to victory. The pro-slavery contingent defeated the abolitionists because, in a democracy, in the land of the free, who are we to tell people that they cant be slaves if they want to be? Who are we to tell someone that she has to be free? Who are we to tell someone that she has to be regarded as fully human?
3. She supports banning burqas
In that same Humanist blog post, which was ultimately about a law banning burqas, Braasch wrote about being against hate speech legislation.
For the record, I am an incipient First Amendment lawyer and a staunch church-state separatist. I am an intractable free speech defender and a vehement opponent of hate crime legislation. I stake the claim that morality has no place in the law. I support the anticipated public burqa ban in France. And I would support a similar ban in the United States and anywhere else in the world.
4. She is against hate crime legislation
From a 2011 blog post on Patheos : Hate crimes legislation is stupid. Seriously stupid. Abominably stupid. I hate hate crimes legislation. But, I love hate speech. Hate crimes legislation has a chilling effect on free speech and freedom of association.
5. She refers to her time as a Jehovahs Witness as being a slave
Braasch left the Jehovahs Witness faith as a teenager and looks upon her time in that religion as enslavement. I was a slave who extolled the virtues of being a slave. I was a slave who insisted that I had chosen slavery of my own free will, of my own volition, as a conscious and educated choice. Because, you see, I was a Jehovahs Witness who had been brainwashed from birth to believe that God had created me subhumanbelow man, she wrote in a blog post.
Yales Vice President of Student Life, Kimberly Goff-Crews issued a statement to students yesterday in response to the #NappingWhileBlack incident that occurred in a residence hall earlier this week. Yale says police admonished Braasch for calling them to remove the napping Black grad student.

(20,816 posts)degree, she already has two engineering degrees, a law degree, and possibly another graduate degree. She's never had to live in the real world and face real consequences, there's something wrong there. I think those of us who've been to college and lived in dorms sometimes wish we could do that forever, and live in that protected bubble as adults, but we eventually realize that it's time to grow up, that we need to do so, and we need to be full-fledged responsible adults. Besides her blatant ignorance and racism that's on full display in her previous writings and actions, there's something else wrong with her.

(2,338 posts)Why is a 43 year old woman living in a dorm? I understand that she is on her 5th degree and it appears that she is a professional student. Does she think she owns the dorm and therefore gets to call the police to oust anyone (read: black people) as she sees fit?
That is my definition of white entitlement. I am a 56 yr old white woman with two children younger than her who completed college and have fulfilling jobs and children. They would never behave this way. This woman is way too full of herself.

(4,533 posts)IMO, many tens of millions are jerks with vile beliefs. That doesnt mean we can just deny them education. We need racist jerks to learn more, not less. Sending them to Yale is actually something we should want. Yale students are brilliantly effective at helping their fellow students improve their reasoning. I went to Yale, when the faculty student ratio was four. My teachers were usually so god it almost defied belief. But as good as they were I learned even more from my fellow students. At least when I was there other students simply refused to permit bad thinking. If I stood up and said something dumb my fellow students would just howl with scorn. It was just the best ever.

(4,533 posts)People have justified many cruel things by claiming the victim was bad in some way. Negroes are criminals so it is ok to send them to bad schools. She is a communist so its ok to not let her work. He is an atheist so we can fire him from our private school. Cassius Clay isnt patriotic so we can keep him from boxing. In all these cases people were convinced the victim deserved it. What if they did deserve it? What if it is true we atheists are bad? When I felt communism was a good idea maybe I did hold an idea not good for people. So what? I really think a good measure of decency is how someone treats bad people. Good people dont need much help, they wont be oppressed. But bad people can really get screwed big time. I think the white lady at Yale is a total creep, repulsive. And I want to treat her with love and kindness. I dont want to encourage her, I want to tell her she is wrong and cruel. But Indont want her to suffer. Look for the video clip of the Seikh politician in Canada with a right wing lady screaming at him because he was a Muslim, she thought. His supporters yelled at her but he told them no, stop, how do we want to treat her. We want to tell her we love her. The seikh hugger her and told her he loves her. Find that video clip. Watch it. Think about it.

(3,022 posts)I can see the beauty of reacting to hate with love. I'm not sure I have it in me though. If the woman who called the police, for the second time on a black person it seems, isn't held accountable the black people she is so heinously disrespecting will be being disrespected by the institution. The racist jerk isn't the only one in this equation.

(17,387 posts)...is not extreme. Indeed, suggesting that the demand that the racist be expelled is equivalent to the acts of the racist is a pretty gross false equivalency akin to Trump saying, "there are many sides, many sides."
While police often receive the blame of shooting unarmed African Americans, at least some of the blame could be laid at the foot of folks who reflexively call the police whenever they see a minority. Even worse, some like George Zimmerman, don't even wait for the police to get there, and take matters into their own hands.

As for unofficial sanctions, there's this from The Humanist below as a sample of what's to come. Routine searches by every organization 43-year-old Sarah Braasch applies to for employment, membership, grants, etc., but especially admission as a student since she always apparently goes back to that, will reveal this and her other behaviors. There's a claim that she also did the same sort of thing a few months ago.
May 10, 2018 The Humanist magazine published two articles from Sarah Braasch as an outside contributor (not a staff member or regular blogger). We regret that this material remained up as long as it did and appreciate those who brought its offensive content to our attention.
We have removed the article Lift the Veil, See the Light by Sarah Braasch (published in the Sept/Oct 2010 issue of the Humanist magazine) from our website after it was brought to our attention that it contains racially offensive argumentation. ...

Frankly, sounds like she's a whackadoodle, but a good studier and test taker. She has two summa cum laude engineering degrees, in aerospace and mechanical from the University of Minnesota, as well as a JD from Fordham Law, spent time "in the boutique hotel industry in LA and Miami," worked for rights organizations here and in France, is a member of the NYS bar, off to San Francisco State for a master's in philosophy and now at Yale going for a Ph.D. in same.

Thats really the only skill she had. That, and making herself look much better (academically)on paper than she actually was. (4,607 posts)We used to have a woman in our neighborhood who clearly had mental issues. She would occasionally trespass, leave garbage on peoples' properties, and generally make a nusissance of herself. Everyone had alerted the cops to her at one point or another. But no one, so far as I know, ever sought to press charges and have her thrown in jail or otherwise removed. People were annoyed at her, but they weren't vindictive.
So the answer to your unprovoked insinuation about my character is: yes, I have sympathy for the woman who had the cops called on her. But that symapthy disappears when she starts taking revenge on someone who's already a slice of cheese short of a sandwich and who already has been publicly humiliated for what she did.
