"It's a hard language to learn, and in the meantime they need to know how to use the stuff they're buying." It was a weird conversation. Nobody seems to get upset when things have both English and French written on them.

I've also had someone tell me that they don't understand why immigrants - even legal immigrants - should be able to get driver's licenses. "You complain because you think immigrants are using welfare, but then you don't want them to be able to drive so they can get jobs? How is that supposed to work?" People are so stupid.
