"Opening of the US Embassy Had Nothing to do with Gaza [Massacre] "

Then they tried to say Palestinian leaders staged it intentionally (and got people killed) as a "propaganda attempt",
Because Israhell had no choice but to defend 'it's border' from unarmed "assailants".
I am heartsick for this country.

(30,481 posts)That does not negate the fault of others.
There is also a glaring lie in your op that needs corrected. Many of them were not unarmed. This is why the conversation cannot take place. Everyone is dependent on the propaganda that meets their settled thoughts. There is enough horror on all sides that the propaganda for everyone can be based in the truth. That is where we are at. I can make every party involved look like forces of evil without ever telling a fib. It's the cool thing to do these days.

(61,090 posts)Given Friedman's and Kushner's backgrounds I assume they knew that having it around Israel Independence day means it is also the memorialization of the "Nakba" - or catastrophe. They are two sides of the time celebrated/memorialized.

(58,724 posts)Obviously the day is viewed very differently by Palestinians, but to many Israelis it is an important historical milestone to be celebrated.

(3,924 posts)Hamas understood that Western news outlets wanted a simple story about villains and victims and would stick to that script, whether because of ideological sympathy, coercion or ignorance. The press could be trusted to present dead human beings not as victims of the terror group that controls their lives, or of a tragic confluence of events, but of an unwarranted Israeli slaughter. The willingness of reporters to cooperate with that script gave Hamas the incentive to keep using it.
The next step in the evolution of this tactic was visible in Mondays awful events. If the most effective weapon in a military campaign is pictures of civilian casualties, Hamas seems to have concluded, theres no need for a campaign at all. All you need to do is get people killed on camera. The way to do this in Gaza, in the absence of any Israeli soldiers inside the territory, is to try to get through the Israeli border, which everyone understands is defended with lethal force and is easy to film. About 40,000 people answered a call to show up. Many of them, some armed, rushed the fence. Many Israelis, myself included, were horrified to see the number of fatalities reach 60.
