http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/05/republican-lawmaker-rocks-tumbling-ocean-causing-sea-level-riseThe Earth is not warming. The White Cliffs of Dover are tumbling into the sea and causing sea levels to rise. Global warming is helping grow the Antarctic ice sheet.
Those are some of the skeptical assertions echoed by Republicans on the U.S. House of Representatives Science, Space and Technology Committee yesterday. The lawmakers at times embraced research that questions mainstream climate science during a hearing on how technology can be used to address global warming.
A leading climate scientist testifying before the panel spent much of the two hours correcting misstatements.
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) said he was bothered that established climate science has not been questioned more by the committee, which has accused federal climate scientists of fraudulently manipulating climate data and subpoenaed their records.

(65,013 posts)The White Cliffs are a grain of sand in a barrel of water compared to the ocean. If all those cliffs fell into the water, the difference in depth couldn't be measured. It could be calculated, but not measured.
They are actually MEASURING the change in sea level.

(18,628 posts)He says "no one is disputing that the Earth is warming", but it wasn't more than a couple years ago that he and all other republicans did just that.
It's like they're getting backed into a corner where they have to accept science little by little, much to the dismay of their campaign donors. Eventually, they'll likely agree that man is causing climate change and fall back on "it's too late" or "it'll be too costly to fix" and blame Obama.

(51 posts)In the mid 70's Lake Erie's water levels were at all time highs. Communities on Michigan's shores were constantly being flooded. A prevailing theory among Darwin Award candidates was that the flooding was due to increased foreign shipping in the lake, I kid you not.

(34 posts)Have yet to hear a Republican who understood basic science (or anything else) or knew how to think clearly without fits of
demonic possession. They are proud of their ignorance and have wrecked the education system over a generation so as
to cripple America. When Betsy DeVos is Secy of Education, Rick Perry is Secy of Energy, Ben Carson is at Labor, etc., it's apparent
Trump intentionally selected morons who would wreck everything. Kansas was once one of the best school systems in the country,
but kids don't need education to work in dead end jobs. So school budgets were cut and cut with predictable results. If I say
'global warming is caused by Obamacare', some right-winger will nod in agreement. Trump epitomizes Republican 'don't know, don't care' attitudes toward the world. Their is no limit to how dumb the GOP can get. At least chimps learn from experience.

(22,114 posts)I always known that politics and the people in politics has been a dirty game and these guys take it to the next level. These guys aren't doing their homework, they are not listening to anyone except Faux News and the so called experts that they found under a rock somewhere.
We need to get these idiots out of there, unwilling to accept the truth, or distorting what 'real truth' that they have heard w/ what their donors have told them (no climate warming, etc.). They will never confront the problem so it can be dealt with before it is too late. But in reality, these guys won't deal w/ any problem, period. Too cowardly to do the right thing (remove RUMP) or put forth any legislation that actually does anyone but their donors any good.
It's almost a matter of life or death...that we must get people who are truly responsible, well meaning adults and not some frat boys or girls playing spin the bottle around the campfire. We don't need these kind of people in governing anymore. Furthermore, the irresponsible manner that these people have acted should be criminalized retroactively and the book thrown at them. These guys are truly traitors when they brought in the Russians or knew in some manner that the Russians were involved somehow. No more playing nice people. It's time to GOTV down and dirty. No prisoners allowed.

(14,490 posts)Can you imagine in today's America being a scientist and a Republican (I'm sure there's lots of them).
Those guys must surely go home from work every day with their heads hanging in shame after reading this sort of bullshit in the news. Most of those poor shits are probably closeted among their peers.
