Yes, a tuba concert of sorts. Actually it's a tuba lecture and how the tuba makes the rest of the band sound good. The guest tuba player is on the musical staff at UCLA and Arizona State, and has worked with our Podunk high school band the last four days imparting all he knows about the tuba; it may prove to be entertaining.

I'll catch the final tomorrow.

Larry is good, but there's something I like about Steve, too.

See you tomorrow

I liked Larry from he said that his 2nd graders had interviewed President Obama for their newspaper/magazine. He's a super smart old time teacher.

who volunteered his accordion club actually did supermarket openings in southern California in the early sixties.

He later learned to play the saw and was the only saw player in Southern California under eighty years of age when Jack Nitzsche put out the word he needed a saw player:

An accordian player WOULD paint. But seriously, what an excellent piece of music. I would have picked it as a Theremin playing the introduction, having only heard the saw played once or twice.

Haven't seen the movie since the 80s but that brought back the triumphant moment the big Chief ripped out the cement block and threw it. Powerful.

He taught me how to play the saw so I can definitely differentiate it from a Theremin.

The tuba gets a bad rap as a comical, oom-pah-pah instrument.

But with the right music and the right instrumentalist, the tuba can be a thing of beauty.

In the 'lai-la-lai' musical coda to Simon and Garfunkel's 'The Boxer', the tuba plays a heart-wrenching accompaniment to the strings and that metallic wham noise.

In 'The Launch' track from the James Horner soundtrack to Apollo 13, the tuba plays a gloriously noble-sounding melody to describe the grandeur of the coming moon mission.

The video doesn't give the live performance justice (the yahoos yelling were not sitting near to me!)
