Lee Atwater was instrumental in making it happen. Not too sure how much input GHWB had in the process.

But policy’s wise. The response to Katrina was horrible absolutely horrible...which lead to Kanye’s comment during a Katrina aid event.

I never thought Bush's response was based on the color of the victims, but on their status.

I don't believe the Bushes "hate black people" I think they hate poor people. It just so happens most in that situation were black.

That's just always been my thoughts on the situation.

I could be wrong about that, though.

1) When JEB Crow Shrub was campaigning for governor, an African American woman asked him what he had to offer to (fill in the blank/ minorities, women, other marginalized groups) and he replied: "Nothing."

2) Poppy referred to his half-Mexican grandchildren as, "Those little Brown ones...(are my grandchildren)"

3) A previous incarnation of Kanye said, after Katrina, " (Shrub) doesn't care about Black people."

The BUSHes are a tough act because their commonplace Repuke policies are insidiously bad for economically and socially marginalized groups, yet, with their relocation to the Southwest, they have gained exposure to Mexican-Americans and Hispanics, such that they can relate on the basic level of the Big Smiles and some 'Spanish lingo" (LIMBOsevic's phrase) - except that JEB Crow Shrub speaks A LOT of Spanish - with just the good approximation of "sincerity" that covers the deep down horrible Repuke-ism.

I think George Bush the Smarter could have been a good President (for a Republican) if he was strong enough to follow his own convictions with regard to Supply Side Economics but he failed by caving to the Moral Majority and Supply Siders in his party even though he knew it was Voo-doo economics and wasn't a deeply prejudiced man

That said, he viciously punished his political enemies. My first real inkling if his cruelty was denying CHIPS to children in Texas. Next when he was president, he let California suffer blackouts and he and rove laughed about it. They deliberately waged war on California to cripple the economy and cause California to go republican. With Katrina, he deliberately punished Louisiana for having a democratic governor. The plan was to destroy the democratic governor; his own reputation was destroyed

I hate trump with everything I've got but nothing he has done so far equals the butchering of innocent people in Iraq. He and tony Blair got off on that war and will share a room in hell

ways. So what do you think, BootinUp?

That many of those who always oppose moves to secure true equality behave in better style than others, especially or at least in public, and lack actual malice toward minorities, does not make them liberal on this issue. Even the best of them have a lot to answer for.

It is possible to read the history of this country as one long struggle to extend the liberties established in our Constitution to everyone in America. ~ Molly Ivins

Those liberties were originally established only for all white men -- and even that was not only against the passionate resistance and disapproval of many conservatives of that day but continues to this one. Before we even get to the "extension" to everyone else.

Btw, whitewashing and false equalizations of Republicans aren't good form on this forum. Right now they're busily working to take children away from their parents at the border. Why? To terrorize the parents. Of course, this atrocity will traumatize and terrify the children far more.
