(10,240 posts)Surpass combat deaths for several years in a row.

(19,204 posts)Not that I like to see the combat deaths of our Servicemen and women, but they signed on to put themselves in harm's way. School children do not. They go to learn, not be gunned down in the springtime of their lives just for going to school.
Donald Trump bears some of the responsibility for these school massacres. He's made bad, racist, violent behavior acceptable in this country. He's empowered the dregs of our society to act out on their worst impulses, because that's exactly what Trump does each and every day.
This shit has to stop!

(11,564 posts)And the point about seeing military deaths as the only alternative or consequence is definitely one some ammosexual would make. That is the one thing I would amplify, though...
Not only are they adults (though many barely so) that signed up to be in harm's way, they are IN harm's way. Schools are supposed to be the very opposite.
If the playing fields were level, so to speak - if children and military were dying in equivalent settings - that would be bad enough. That it's happening in what has been and always should be havens for them makes it way worse.
And, it's just one more issue that should be a hook on which this administration needs to be hung and left to rot...

Sad state of affairs when they put more importance in their precious firearms than they do innocent childrens lives....

(297,595 posts)we can only imagine how they feel. Like it's the normal.. because Congress won't help.. the bloodthirsty nra only cares about selling More GUNS..
The KIDS are not going to sit down and take it.. Good for our whole country to have the KIDS and Adults out there Protesting.
I hope the survivors of the Santa Fe High massacre become activists, too. Incredible we have to talk like this

(297,595 posts)All they're going through and all the diligent activism they've been doing since shortly after February 14th.. and now another tragic school shooting.. in Santa Fe, Texas.. population about 13,000 where more hearts are unbearably broken.

(9,897 posts)The NRA has a new playbook formed from the Parkland protests....ignore the entire thing for 14-18 days and the short attention span American morons - ie. "the public" - will forget all about it again...until it happens, again and again and again and again...then simply lather, rinse, repeat. It keeps working better and better each time...give the protests and victims the spotlight, watch the comet rocket across the media firmament...and watch it fade into nothing yet again.
America is a shit hole country, ruled by morons and unfit for consideration as a world leader in anything other than the slaughter of itself by its own from within - figuratively and literally.
Fewer than 100 dead? That body count is not enough to bump the royal wedding on the AM shows....think I'm callous or wrong? Turn on your TV right now and see what is really important in this shit hole country for yourself...don't take my word for it.
For the victims or people who know people touched by this evil, I wish this was not true, I wish this country was not what it has become, and you do not deserve this pain or heartache. May it pass swiftly and may you all receive the support and love you need and truly DO deserve in this time of crisis...

(23,364 posts)I'm guessing the total would be much higher.
Anyway, a cute, but meaningless, comparison.

(6,446 posts)Not sure i get the distinction.
JustABozoOnThisBus
(23,364 posts)The number of deaths "suffered" is the number of dead who were U.S. military. The number of deaths "inflicted" is the number of dead who were killed by U.S. military, probably a much higher number.
We celebrate, or honor, the former, on Memorial Day.
The latter we don't talk about much.
Comparing either number (or the total) to the number of criminal deaths is sort of pointless.

(19,204 posts)- something that should be a happy, life affirming milestone - with successfully completing a tour of duty in a war zone. Yay! We made it through alive!
That is just plain old fashioned fucking sad! What has the GOP/NRA done to our children's innocence?
