In response to President Trump demanding an investigation into whether the FBI infiltrated his presidential campaign, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein asked its internal watchdog, the Office of the Inspector General, to expand its current inquiry into the surveillance of a former Trump campaign official to include the questions raised by the president, the New York Times reports.
Said Rosenstein: If anyone did infiltrate or surveil participants in a presidential campaign for inappropriate purposes, we need to know about it and take appropriate action.
By handing the question to the inspector general, Mr. Rosenstein appeared to be trying to thread the needle, giving the president what he said he wanted without fully bowing to his demands. But it was not clear whether that would satisfy Mr. Trump, who in February complained that it was disgraceful for the Justice Department to hand over the surveillance investigation to an inspector general who lacks prosecutorial power, saying it would take forever and suggesting that he was an Obama guy.'

(32,078 posts)Nobody "infiltrated" his campaign or "surveilled" them. That imbecile still doesn't understand that the ones being watched were his Russian co-conspirators. He and his campaign just got caught up in that because they were conspiring with the ones the FBI was investigating. Comey explained that to him last year. Or, maybe he does understand it, but realizes that his cult followers don't. I hope Rosenstein is just patronizing him with those comments, and points out the obvious in the end.

(58,724 posts)Hes been honored by Harvard Law Schools Federalist Society.
As a member of Kenneth Starrs Whitewater team, he investigated the Clintons (and even sat in on an interview with Hillary Clinton). Former President George W. Bush tried to make him a federal appeals court judge.
He is a right-winger who Kamala Harris, Corey Booker, Richard Blumenthal, and Elizabeth Warren all voted against confirming.

(2,848 posts)The important thing is that he isn't a corrupt trump toady. He seems to be genuinely concerned with preserving the rule of law and the independence of the Justice Department. Our country would be in a lot of trouble if someone like Devin Nunes were the the AG or deputy AG, but luckily we don't have that.
