(205,135 posts)I was a kid in elementary school when prayer was eliminated in public schools. If anyone wants to send their kids to private schools, where religious education is part of the curriculum, they're free to, but it's not up to the taxpayers to subsidize it.

Officially proscribed or led prayer was.
A recent SCOTUS case on point is

(13,305 posts)...but let's not also pretend that on this particular issue that there's miles of daylight between her position and Arne Duncan's and President Obama's.
Both were and are for "school choice", charter schools and "vouchers" which are pretty much tantamount to allowing private and religious schools to access and siphon money from public education.
There are plenty of issues where there is Grand Canyon sized chasms between the Obama admin's positions and Trump's. But public education is not one of them.
