Republican candidate says displaced Puerto Ricans shouldn't be able to vote in Florida

Washington (CNN)A Republican congressional candidate is facing a backlash after saying that Puerto Ricans who moved to Florida in the wake of Hurricane Maria last year should not be able to register to vote in the state.

In a video uploaded to YouTube by the campaign of a Republican rival, John Ward -- a candidate in the GOP primary for Florida's 6th Congressional District -- is asked by a voter how he would respond to Puerto Ricans who have "moved either temporarily or permanently to Florida" when "they say that they need more help and that the aid to Puerto Rico is not enough."
Ward replied by saying, "First of all, I don't think they should be allowed to register to vote. It's not lost on me that, I think, the Democrat party's really hoping that they can change the voting registers in a lot of counties and districts, and I don't think they should be allowed to do that."

Citizens aren't "allowed" to register to vote, it's their right under the Constitution. It should not be lost on Floridians that Ward is saying that if elected he will not preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. Don't elect a traitor who doesn't believe in the Constitution, Florida.

Apparently he's unaware that these are US Citizens.

I would ask how he feels about hispanic americans or african americans voting, but i think i know the answer.

their grandfathers for ww2 didn't ya? They are Americans, white boy. Sure do like their retirement funds into your state.

My son in law is Puerto Rican, served in the military. His father is a retired navy vet and his mother is a psychologist who now live in Florida. Just bought a new house and will move into it this month.

Democratic Party, keep up the voter drive in Florida.

They have a lot at stake in Nov 2018. They are going to pull out all the stops to maintain their power base. With gerrymandering, voter suppression, help by the Russians and out and out vote stealing - the Repugs will be out in force in Nov.

We need to have the most historic vote in U.S. history. We need to make the Nov 2018 election one where it sets historic records for people voting. The most people coming out to vote ever.

This is the only way to assure the Blue Wave. Don't take the Blue Wave for granted. We need to GOTV!!!!!
