In March 2017, Garrett posed for a photo with one of the organizers of the Unite the Right rally (who was a constituent).[11] Following the attack there, and despite the fact that emails released in response to a FOIA request by constituents prove Garrett was warned about Kessler before their meeting, Garrett disavowed the organizer and said that he was unaware of Jason Kessler's role in the rally when they initially met.
