How many times in our American History have we as a people felt this way?

Watergate? Were people invested? Did they care?

McCarthy? Other than those being blacklisted did every day Americans care?

I know we have had some harrowing times in our history, but did American's care?

Seems like until it starts affecting the masses, life goes on.

Hubby told me tonight I am just too invested and care too much. He was glad to see me watching "normal" tv and not politics. I told him I just couldn't take much more. He said he had been trying to tell me that for a year. Said nothing will be done and that fucker will likely still be president for the rest of his term and probably get voted in again.

UNTIL it matters for the MASSES this goes on.

My son was the same way, but I noticed that when it came to things he was passionate about he was just as invested. Next time your husband gets upset maybe you might remind him to not be so invested.

Reagan, bush I & II upset me.

Not until this one though I feel like I'm living in another reality. I found myself experiencing 'derealization' a few years ago bc of personal troubles, but now this. This is really so detrimentally bad, affecting one's spirit, soul and overall well-being.

the people's hands are virtually tied and we have to wait until the election to hopefully put things sorta right, but we aren't even sure of that because the election could very well be rigged against us.

That's what is so terrible about this go 'round.

reforms and a very long period of general, growing prosperity. Even when a national mood change to conservatism ended that in the end of the 1970s, the previous prosperity and institutionalized individual rights carried us for a long time with nothing like this or what came before.

BUT, it's worth noting that strong conservatives were often sure during that period that our nation was being destroyed, and they went through this a bunch of times. Those who marched in passionate protest at every nuclear step-down treaty didn't do it out of longing for a nice nuclear winter but because they were as anxious and scared as we are now that it could mean the end for our nation. Irrational, dangerous fear, but half our nation is conservative, after all, and these are more than half of those. The Iran nuclear deal, omg!

And I remember the shitstorm that blew up after the Saturday Night Massacre. There were times when some of us wondered whether the system would hold up, and I also remember some speculation about whether Nixon would defy the Supreme Court's order to turn over the tapes. This is scarier, though, because despite all the outrage of powerless Democrats in Congress and some in the media, the constitutional process of checks and balances that protected the system during Watergate seems to be failing. That is extremely worrisome. I don't know how this ends.

I had hope that congress would play their check and balance and that Mueller would be okay but now I just don't know.

Like he said-the fucker could shoot someone on 5th Ave and no one would care.

We are in this situation because too many people didn't care. This is affecting all of us in many ways that we don't even notice. I've notice more people with depression and angry outbursts. I've noticed the prices of food are up, gas is up, rates are up, and markets are down. You are right, it will go on because these changes are small and not so noticeable, but it we compare today to two years ago, it's bad all around. If we stop keeping ourselves informed, we become just like them sheeple.
