On the NFL

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:—"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!’” the president said

Is he violating his oath?

I would say probably not. He voiced an opinion just as many of us do. That he is President gives him a large audience and lots of coverage, but it’s still an opinion.

As to what the NFL owners or players do or do not do, that is a workplace issue and they tend to not be democracies. I can see the point of the ownership trying to make a devisive issue go away by placating the offended and noisy masses while offering the players and their supporters a way out as well. I don’t see this working to quell the debate, but we will see.
