(11,804 posts)I mean I would guess that the deplorable politicians could explain those things (the explanations might be wrong, but would be there) - and i'm guessing politically illiterate liberals couldn't.
Perhaps the big difference is that left leaning politically illiterate people assume that maybe since they don't know the issues they shouldn't vote - while conservative illiterates (deplorables) are happy to vote based on what their political leaders tell them.

(4,858 posts)...and not just "liberalism". And that's where we are. We've crossed a Rubicon. If liberal democracy is going to be saved, it's going to require both political action from the mass of the people, *and* a leader who understands the stakes, is pragmatic in his tactics but unyieldingly radical in his strategic goals--another Lincoln or FDR. If we can't get both of these, this country is finished.

(332 posts)Basing your "feel-good" posts on asinine caricatures of the worst in American culture, does nothing in order to advance the Party's message of championing the interest of all Americans (you might say that by focusing on them, you actually hurt the cause).
Though it makes you feel better, it reinforces the perception of a petty, vindictive, elitist, tribal-Party.
It is this kind of vision and leadership that once again has gotten us here:

(37,748 posts)"Basing your "feel-good" posts on asinine caricatures of the worst in American culture..."
What specifically leads you to imply the photos of Trump's supporters are the "worst" of Trump's supporters rather than an accurate indication of many, if not most of them?
Or (and I find this a wee bit more likely) the false equivalency you presented us with has no objective evidence to support it, and your allegation is merely designed to "make you feel better..."
"It is this kind of vision and leadership that once again has gotten us here..."
In addition to the False Equivalency fallacy, you also allow us the Post Hoc Ergo Prompter Hoc fallacy as well!
Well done!

... So, your supposition is that picture is representative of at best 31,500,000 adult Americans (most Trump voters) and at worst 118,000,000 eligible voters? Not likely; try getting off this site once in awhile!
Or (and I find this a wee bit more likely) the false equivalency you presented us with has no objective evidence to support it, and your allegation is merely designed to "make you feel better..."
....This is not as hard as you are making it; you win elections by proposing, working for and passing good legislation, legislation that provides material benefits for all this country's citizens; you lose election by failing to do so (and you can lose with flair if you manage to alienate any portion of the core electorate over the course of two of the most winnable elections in a century).
"It is this kind of vision and leadership that once again has gotten us here..."
In addition to the False Equivalency fallacy, you also allow us the Post Hoc Ergo Prompter Hoc fallacy as well!
...Is this parody or possible satire (false..fallacy)? And yes, we are talking about causality; labeling it a "fallacy" doesn't really speak to the merits of the issue.
Well done!

(99,710 posts)Trump's approval ratings hover in the high thirties to mid forties. The people who say they approve of the job he is doing are aware of his mendacity, cupidity, contempt for the rule of law, Islamophobia, nativism, transphobia, racism, et cetera.
I choose to describe those who hold those beliefs or approve of those who hold those beliefs as deplorable, sir. How would you describe them ?
HenryWallace
(332 posts)... misinformed Citizens, but .... Citizens.
... your the problem.
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,710 posts)If you meet a person who holds anti-semtic, Islamophobic, nativist, racist, transphobic views , et cetera his or her only flaw is that he or she is "misinformed" and that there is no evidence of moral rot in him or her ?
And does that mean the Germans who supported Hitler's destruction of European Jewry were merely "misinformed Citizens" as you contend ?
Do you agree or disagree with the proposition that citizenship doesn't confer morality on the thoughts and actions of a citizen ?
Thank you in advance.
BTW, we are making a kind of progress. You're no longer posting defunct generic ballot polls.

Im a retired adult and Ive been taking classes at my local community college for my own enjoyment and edification. I have a degree in chemistry and I used to work as one, so Im not looking for another degree. So with my time Ive been taking bunches of history courses, music courses, and political science courses.
The professor in my political science course is only one year older than me and I really connected with him and the topic. The whole idea of judicial review comes from a misquoting of the constitution by Marshall. There is a lot of debate whether or not this was intentional, its an interesting read.

(22,035 posts)How can we expect people to know these important things about their country when they weren't taught them in school? I'm older so when I was in junior high school (as it was called back then), we had two years of Social Studies classes where we learned about different ideologies and the U.S. Constitution. In contrast, my nephew who graduated from high school a year ago, never had any civics classes and his education about the U.S. system was limited to a single unit of the U.S. History class.
Republicans have destroyed the public education systems in our country. The result is the tremendous number of Americans who are simply ignorant.

CNN sent a reporter out to cover them and people would always list Cap and Trade as one of the reasons not to vote for Barack Obama. Then they would be asked to explain how it worked. They had NO CLUE WHAT THE FUCK CAP AND TRADE WAS.
