"One week ago today, the president used all the stagecraft the White House could muster to portray immigrants as non-human. Some may honestly believe this was not about labeling all immigrants as animals to distract his base and the traditional media from the ever-growing clouds of collusion and corruption overhanging this administration. Some might actually see this as a sincere attempt to micro-manage Californias county jails. Not so much us. For us, now seems a good time to use the voice of humanity at the heart of cooking to try, in our way, to both defuse the fear he is trying to create, and bring the focus back to what he is trying to hide.
"Browse our stores or our website and you will be hard-pressed to find anything that was not brought to our shelves as a gift from immigrants. In the desire to pass on the dishes of kindness and caring of their youth to their new families and communities, immigrants blessed America with the greatest diversity of flavor any nation has ever known. We are grateful."
(This Facebook post was from yesterday. The following is from April 25.)
"Saturday before last we called out the presidents sudden shift from no crimes have been committed to its a crime to investigate my crimesthat day turned out to be far and away the biggest day for sales in the history of Penzeys. If you know of someone in charge of running a business, please let them know that if they are thinking of standing on the right side of history, now is the time.

"And for those of you who at times may think you are alone in your sense of loss at what America has become, please dont. Our numbers show you are far from alone. But even more importantly they show that the America you love, the one that ever strives for ever-greater equality and ever-greater opportunity for all may have been knocked by a cheap shot, but its standing back up again, rolling up its great sleeves, and that America is determined to set things right. None of us can take our eyes off of the November 6 elections, but America is already being reborn, rededicated to the spirit of equality that made us the leader among nations."
I think it's pretty awesome for a company that relies 100% on customer loyalty to be so emphatically and proudly liberal. And from their Facebook posts it seems as though their business is picking up as a result.
I'm lucky to have a local store in Madison.
I'm not much of a cook, but when I need something, I go there.

(10,167 posts)My nephew has worked for him at his plant in Milwaukee for years, and would be loathe to leave. He's an awesome employer and a vocal liberal and has bee for years.
In our family we ask for and give his spice gift boxes for birthdays and Christmas to people we think might like them. I give his salt and pepper grinders for wedding gifts. Any way we can support him, we do.

(5,477 posts)They are an outstanding example of how a corporation SHOULD run itself. High rents ran them out of their downtown Seattle store (which I used to walk past - and usually stop in - once a week). They opened a new store near a mall north of here, about ½ hour away (with the usual traffic), and I try to get there about every other month, or when I need something.
Here's a link to their full statement (on Facebook) announcing a new free deal for tonight only. The last time they did a big freebie like this they ran out of product, and jars to put the product into. We got a rain check and just redeemed it last week.

(5,477 posts)Wound up getting about $27 in value for about $8 shipping.
(I had stopped at the local store a couple of weeks ago, and really didn't *need* to order anything else!)
Penzey's is *really* good people.
Deal goes until 1PM Eastern, 10AM Pacific tomorrow, Friday, May 25th.
As an additional benefit, just about every time I've done a mailorder from them, they've tossed some extra goodies into the box.

(13,776 posts)I'm a terrible cook and I don't really enjoy it, but 1) maybe quality spices will make it more appealing and 2) as you say, they are REALLY good people.

(22,336 posts)I will order more tonight and get this new deal. I always buy other stuff at the same time when they're giving out freebies.

(13,776 posts)I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong; I was putting in three at a time, separated by commas, and then separated by commas and spaces....
Just put one in at a time until you've added all three of your freebies.
By the way, here are the first two paragraphs of their latest Facebook post:
Our President chose a campaign chairman who had accepted $17 Million from a pro-Russia political party. This chairman went on to personally pick the vice presidential candidate, who then went on during the transition to pick a literal Russian agent as our countrys top national security advisor, despite being explicitly warned about his past.
Our offer is in support of Americas immigrant population, but the reason the President took the time out of his day to call a group of immigrants animals was to distract from the investigation into Russian involvement. Every story about the investigation needs to start with the above reminder.
