The unexpected cancellation of the summit is more than the North Korea's so called hostile demeanor? The great deal maker is a frighten animal. He can't stand to play second fiddle to anyone! It is his arrogance and ego. In his letter to Kim Jong Un, he played both sides of the road. In one sentence, he acts tough and then he wants to kiss up Un. Never less this meeting was and will never happen! It is all above bouncing the ball to other end of the court!

(30,481 posts)Trump is not a negotiator and never has been one. He has had people do it for him. "Art of the Deal" should be a one sentence book. "I hire people more competent than myself to negotiate."
With Trump and his crew going all in as if just the announcement of the meeting itself meant it was going to be success, he put Kim in a better negotiating position. I believe we were about to see Kim "back out". He wasn't really going to back out but knows he had Trump in a bad position. If Trump flounders, Kim has other countries to look at. If Trump takes the bait then Kim gets billions more dollars.
The administration making the meeting itself to appear as if success had been achieved was as poor as it gets in terms of negotiating.

(11,885 posts)...Did NK see and hear all the false projections done by trump and pence , and more threats and demands , and knew these people couldn't be trusted, and NK got with both Russia and China to continue ignoring the sanctions, and for military help if trump tried anything against them now. Trump was also I think scared to meet him, knowing how uninformed he is. This was all PR for trump , not anything else, and now that they understand what he was doing, why would they meet with him knowing he won't do what he says anyway. Now they're back to threats out of one side of their mouths, to please feel free to come back and meet in good faith, when from them there is none. Kim won easily, and left trump looking like a fool again. Putin and Xi siding with NK, again also. The greatest foreign policy failure I've ever seen from a sitting President. Tillerson was absolutely right in his comments about what trump is.

(14,530 posts)Kim was trained and educated for his role as dictator from birth. trump got a medal because he could make his bed.
Would you want to negotiate any deal with trump knowing he backs out of them on a whim?
