Tapper lists dubious claims made by Trump 03:51
(CNN)President Donald Trump has in recent days turned reporting that a confidential FBI source met with some of his campaign officials into a full-blown unsubstantiated conspiracy theory that the "deep state" secretly implanted a political spy into his 2016 campaign.
The President tweeted that it "could be one of the biggest political scandals in history!" despite having no evidence to back up his claim.
The FBI, while conducting a counterintelligence investigation into whether Russians were trying to influence the 2016 election, sent a confidential source to speak with members of the Trump campaign. There is no evidence the source was planted in the campaign or that the meetings were done for political purposes, as the President alleges.
This is not the first time Trump has propelled a conspiracy theory with no evidence.
"He frequently lies and has a long and well-documented career engaging in conspiracy theories about all manner of subjects, with no concrete evidence provided."
Tapper went on to name some of Trump's most notable conspiracy theories, including that former President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States, Sen. Ted Cruz's father might have been involved in the assassination of JFK, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough was somehow involved in the tragic death of one of his staff members and that Obama had his wires tapped in Trump Tower.
While the President continues to fuel his counter-narrative, Tapper says he "will continue digging for the truth despite the bombardment of falsehoods."

(82,849 posts)Why does anyone else believe anything he says? If the self-generated "Spygate" Trump is currently touting is true, and if it truly is "one of the biggest political scandals in history!", why isn't Trump doing anything about it? Instead, he's off for another long weekend of grueling TV watching, golf, and manic twittering.
Note to the popular media: It's not your responsibility to make Trump's delusions your reality. Call it like you see it, call it like it is.

Having accomplished that, they'll believe anything you say - and beg for more.

President Trump on Friday once again made the claim that the FBI improperly spied on his presidential campaign, suggesting that the bureau used a top-secret informant to surveil his team long before it began investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
"The Democrats are now alluding to the the concept that having an Informant placed in an opposing partys campaign is different than having a Spy, as illegal as that may be," he tweeted. "But what about an 'Informant' who is paid a fortune and who 'sets up' way earlier than the Russian Hoax?"
"Can anyone even imagine having Spies placed in a competing campaign, by the people and party in absolute power, for the sole purpose of political advantage and gain?" he wrote in a second tweet. "And to think that the party in question, even with the expenditure of far more money, LOST!"
The tweets were Trump's latest suggestion that the FBI planted a mole within his campaign to spy on his team under the guise that his associates were being influenced by Moscow.
No evidence has emerged that the FBI spied on Trump's campaign. The informant, identified in media reports as Stefan Halper, an American academic, reportedly met with at least three advisers on Trump's campaign in 2016.
It is not clear whether the FBI paid the informant at all for his work.
Trump's tweets Friday came a day after select lawmakers met with top Justice Department officials for two highly classified meetings to discuss the FBI's use of the informant in the early months of the counterintelligence investigation into Russia's role in the election.
After the meetings, congressional Democrats said they saw "no evidence" that the FBI placed a spy in the Trump campaign.....................................................

(56,828 posts)when a RW radio host gave him the qualification, "You mean, they created the conditions that allowed for the formation of ISIS?" Trump doubled down and said, no they were actually the founders.
I think Rand Paul said several years back that hawks in the Republican party were responsible for ISIS forming, and I tend to agree with Sen. Paul
