Texas Republican Who Pushed To Impeach Obama Just Got Jailed After Being Convicted Of 23 Felonies

A Republican former congressman from Texas has been convicted of fraud after funneling $1.25 million from donors into personal expenses as part of what prosecutors have described as a “white collar crime spree.”

A jury in federal court in Houston ruled Thursday afternoon that former GOP lawmaker Steve Stockman (Texas) is guilty of all but one of the 24 felonies he was charged with last March.

-----------------------------

When he was in Congress, Stockman, a staunch conservative, gained notoriety for threatening to seek the impeachment of then-President Barack Obama if he tried to implement gun control regulations through executive action.

So let's just say the judge is lenient and gives him only a tenth of that. That would be 46 years in prison. I do not think he is getting out.

He was cuffed and remanded into custody immediately after the guilty verdict was read. He has been deemed a flight risk. He was originally arrested at an airport trying to board an international flight before the trial.

He was trying to escape to the UAE, and he had previously (per Rachel Maddow) tried to get Eliot Broidy (of all people?) to help him get appointed ambassador to the Emirates, said he had a lot of friends there.

(The Rachel segment was last night-- mentioned also that Broidy had tried to negotiate a $75 million deal with a Malaysian guy caught up in that scandal to get the charges dropped here in the US.... Broidy. Hmm. Where did he get enough power in Trump administration to even promise that sort of influence? hmm... taking the blame for Trump's refusal to use a condom...?)

Looks as though his head sits on his shoulders now, with those too big shoulder pads keeping it from sliding right down into his chest. Too bad with "all his wealth!" no decent tailor would have anything to do with him. My sons have bought better fitting suits off the rack at JC Penney. They are not fat slobs, though, so it makes a difference.

He has a federal conviction which means he may be subject to a mandatory minimum sentence, or at best the judge will have sentencing guidelines to go by. Federal time means he will do every single day of his sentence. He’s already in prison now waiting on the judges decision and stealing money under the auspices of a charity will not go well for sympathy.

He was kept in jail after sentencing because he is considered a flight risk. He apparently knew his number was up as he was originally arrested at an airport preparing to board a flight to Dubai and has been in jail ever since.
