Thinking about joining a local group and curious about them.

(43,049 posts)A large part of their pitch was a national group supporting and unifying the little groups. They underestimated the power of local egos squabbling.
Go ahead and join-- it can't hurt and may help.

(13,421 posts)My assessment of the local group is that a lot of them are younger and have just begun to engage in the political process. Quite a few new faces and not a lot of rigid "we've always done it this way..." attitudes. Lots of energy there.
Full disclosure, I started a "Flat Rodney" character locally to generate some attention to our local Republican Congressman's lack of interaction with constituents. Hes a larger than life cardboard mock up of the congressman, and he shows up in places the real Rodney Davis won't (is afraid to) go. I have five of those out in the congressional district making appearances and generally pissing off Davis.
Indivisible is one of the groups that has been a big supporter and booster of the Flat Rodney persona. They, and PDA, the former Pantsuit Nation folks, along with Mom's Demand Action, Save Our Healthcare, Food and Water Watch, the Young Democrats, and the local Dem parties have all helped generate buzz and appearances for Flat Rodney. The effort is working. News reports almost always refer to Davis in some way that references his failure to deal with voters, and several times have actually shown Flat Rodney at some point in that news story.
My point, is that Indivisible has a huge potential to join the fray and have an impact. Every pair of hands is welcome.
