I read that 70% of the players are African American. Not one NFL club could field a team.

That would happen. The positive is that there would be less brain injuries for my folks.

(22,031 posts)If a few determined men in the NFL refused to be cowed by the Fascist owners (primed by Trump), then took a knee during the anthem, each team would have to be fined under these new (illegal) rules.
Of course, these brave and patriotic individuals would be attacked by those on the Right. But the new workplace rules violate several laws and probably the U.S. Constitution:

The NFL Players Association should make this a free speech and workplace issue. They'll win while the owners, and Trump by extension, will be exposed as un-American.
I don't watch the NFL anymore. It isn't football, it's commercialism by the rich owners at the physical and mental expense of the workers. I don't understand the primitive tribal mentality of too many of the game's fans. And I cannot in good conscience support or encourage these crass commercial activities that do nothing to improve our lives.
More importantly, I don't see anything patriotic about football, baseball or other sporting events played by millionaires for the enrichment of billionaires while selling anything to the viewers. How do these events improve our nation? How are the participants-- at every level-- expressing love and respect for the United States? In fact, the tribalism of professional sports divides us as a people to the point that violence can frequently occur at these "sporting" events.
I hope the players will fight back against the owners and Trump. That would be a patriotic fight for equal rights, Constitutional fairness and freedom of expression.

(32,673 posts)Do not take a knee. Hold up a fist, as in the old Black Power Salute. If the leagues comes down on that, a quick switch to a new form of protest. Hold hand over heart with only the middle finger extended. And so on....Stay ahead of the powers that be.
