The sweet spot for getting an immigration deal remains now. The closer we get to the election and certainly post-election, the more difficult it will be, the Colorado Republican recounted telling the president. If we wait longer, the more difficult it becomes. Theyll blame it on both parties at that point.
A group of senators in both parties is beginning to restart back-channel talks across the aisle and with the White House in hopes that the chamber will be ready to act if the House or the courts throw the issue back to the Senate this summer. But the Senate isnt ready to take up the issue after a thoroughly unproductive immigration debate in February, followed by months of radio silence.
And lawmakers are growing more and more worried the upper chamber could be blindsided by a call to action later this year.

Why no one is talking about this issue much anymore is beyond me

(58,724 posts)"All of that adds up to young people believing that perhaps the program has ended, perhaps the program is going to end within the next few months, 'perhaps there is no more chance for me.' And that is incorrect," Cabrera said.
Federal data show that DACA renewals in the second quarter of this fiscal year are half what they were a year ago. Roughly 70,000 people renewed their DACA status between Jan. 1 and March 31, compared with more than 140,000 a year earlier.
Organizations like Cabrera's that process renewals have been reaching out to DACA recipients and even offering to pay applicants' fees.

(26,608 posts)DACA and deportations are a big issue in Colorado. Cory's taking care of Cory, but I do want to see some headway on this issue. These people have been Americans for decades, give them citizenship

(26,608 posts)he can do one good thing in his sorry career. Mark Udall is a good man and was a fine Senator. I'll never forgive the Denver Post for endorsing Gardner, a right wing anti choice religious fanatic. But he should work on the immigration issue.. it's quite contentious here where most of us know someone who's undocumented. With Gardner, I think the question always is what's in it for him, and mostly that means cash from the Koch's or the NRA.

(10,611 posts)Trump (and Miller) don't want to do a damn thing about DACA except destroy it.
The only thing Trump wants is his wall.
