The fact that her show was o popular just proves how far off the rails the US is. I sick of this POS country. Cannot defended it.

(11,726 posts)I never watched the new Rosanne so I really do not have an opinion on it. I think the same thing about Survivor, or the Bachelor being at one point, the number one shows on TV.
What was particularly bad about the show?
She was the star.
Depite her history of racism and anti semitism.

(58,785 posts)being top rated is evidence of OUR depraved culture. That means you too, MFM. So, agreeing should give you a different insight from me because I do not.
What about the show itself shows you and me are "sick"? Can you point to an episode, a joke that evidences your moral depravity?
Btw, I've never so much as watched a commercial, much less an episode. Does that make me slightly less sick or, as an American, am I just as nauseatingly immoral as everyone else?

(18,890 posts)How anyone, anywhere found her worthy of 10 seconds of their life to watch her is beyond me... she is trash, and proud to be white trash - especially in her support for other white trash - especially the white trash that squats in our White House.

(5,210 posts)there has been an enormous amount of misinformation about the show this year. I've seen pundits I otherwise respect go off on a real tangent about the show, all the while revealig that they didn't know anything more about it than that Roseanne is a Trump supporter.
I watched all 9 shows (tho inadvertently missed the first half of the last show). ONLY the premiere episode mentioned Trump or anything about him, and I found the treatment superb. This is what happened (in that first show):
Rosanne and her sister Jackie hadn't spoken in a year or more because she supported Trump and Jackie didn't. R's daugher (and her2 kids) came to live there and Darlene decided to get the 2 back together so she engineered for Jackie to come over.
Jackie arrives wearing her knitted hot pink "pussy' hat, and standing in the doorway she said something about "deplorables" before coming in. I don't remember the exact comment (joke).
There were tensions and finally, at the dinner table, Jackie shouted, Rosanne, how COULD you? Rosanne said, "Jackie, he talked about jobs, about shaking things up. You may not remember we almost lost our house last year."
Jackie retorted, "Well, have you seen the news? Things are WORSE." Rosanne shot back: "Not on the REAL news." (I found that whole exchange poignant and hilarious.)
They ended up a little later making up and being family again.
There have been NO OTHER MENTIONS of Trump or indeed anything partisan in any of the 8 episodes after that, at least that I saw. Plenty of political stuff -- just not partisan. Things like how expensive healthcare is, the opioid crisis, little boys who want to dress like little girls, surrogate motherhood, a Muslim family next door that gets a raw deal (and Rosanne ends up helping them out). Other stuff not too dissimilar. Pretty leftwing stuff, actually.

So anyway, I must be a terrible, terrible person because I won't full-throatedly denounce the show. HER vile statement today? Unbelievably vile. Beneath anyone who has a voice or face in front of the public.
But the show itself, on which she shared the Executive Producer job with Sarah Gilbert, was never what most of its critics tried, ignorantly, to make it. I personally had other complaints about it -- everyone was stiff and tight until about the last episode. Sarah Gilbert didn't smile once that I saw, and Jackie was just plain old shrill in her delivery most of the time. And so forth. But it was NOT what most people -- again, people who never saw anything beyond press reports or at best the even-handed Premiere episode -- think it was.

(25,586 posts)This aint the old days when large swaths of the public all tuned into the same thing.
Edited: Actually even less than that; the most recent episode only drew about 10 million viewers, so less than 3% or thereabouts.
LiberalFighter
(50,828 posts)doesn't take into account that is less than 10% of the population. A Super Bowl game has over a 100 million viewers.
