She didn't anticipate her show being canceled, the protests, the impact on the cast and crew of her show.
And her ego trumped the obligations she had to her co-stars and the crew of her admittedly successful show. They are now unemployed, will lose money on residuals, struggle not to be blamed vicariously for her idiocy and racism.
She simply wasn't thinking.
And not thinking that her comments were racist; on the contrary: she believed herself to be a purveyor of witty epigrams. And she certainly didn't think of the pain she was inflicting on Valerie Jarrett. Maybe Roseanne thought that Ms. Jarrett would share a chuckle with her.
Tonight, somewhere in a darkened room, Roseanne Barr is wondering what happened.

(4,723 posts)Every wingnut on the AM radio and FAUX snooze will be tripping all over themselves to get her on their programs, so they can all whine and wail about how the EBUL LIBRULS have destroyed her life. The deplorables, no doubt, will see her as a martyr to their fetid cause

The Genealogist
(4,723 posts)Much more compelling to her deplorable kkkomerades if they can see her face as she whines.

(51,585 posts)They act, they act on their emotion and vote with their hatred. The GOP thinks best when it applies to their getting richer and getting reeelcted. They embraced Roseanne's hatred since they speak the same language...$$$$$. That turned out to bite Roseanne in the ass, let's hope it does the same with the GOP midterm elections.

(7,394 posts)That kind of ugly usually doesn't fly its freak flag when there's money to be lost.
She's going to fry herself for a long time over this. Maybe she'll even have an epiphany.
Nahhh.

(14,530 posts)except for the part where she didn't believe her comments were racist. She damned well knew they were, that is why she made them. She has made them before and was called on it. She is old enough to know what she said was racist. A poor joke is what they all say when called out on their racism. Every. Single. Time.
She just figured with her hit show, ABC would let it slide.
She had a legitimate reason to believe so. They signed her on, knowing full well she is a racist, nutter conspiracy theorist, and depending on what day of the week an anti-Semite. All of this is well known about her and they signed her anyway.

Its making fun of the holocaust makes my point.

(8,311 posts)And she saw the fact it didn't have great ratings, thanks to crazy storylines like having Becky want to do surrogacy but Title Character flipping out at it being traditional vs gestational -- after Roseanne Conner practically badgered Darlene in the previous version to have an an abortion of the magically 8 years younger now Harris.
Which, I noticed, Sara Gilbert seemed to be unable not to forget, or the writing team didn't feel it could be completely overlooked -- either way, they had Darlene be the one calling her on hypocrisy.
Perhaps it was that Barr was jealous that Gilbert was the actress really holding the show together in this reboot -- my impression from my decision to binge the reboot season while it was still on Hulu. (Barely did get them watched -- sometime while playing the last one it apparently got deleted, because as soon as it finished it said the clip that would have been up was expired and the series was gone.) And if Gilbert did feel portraying a poor single mom moving back in with parents who were socially conservative when she wasn't was worth it, perhaps the fact a S2 would be impossible without her gave her more pull with ABC in creative direction for the show than Barr was willing to accept.
So instead of her previous practice in the prior run of firing people she disliked after each season... Barr does something that gets them all canned, and she can now pretend to be a martyr for free speech.
