Dog and pony show with no real outcome. Clapper Was asked in an interview what he saw as the biggest threat to the US. He said something about after another 6 years, China. So I’m thinking they going to let him finish his first term and expect him to get re-elected in 2020.

General Clapper was asked recently what he saw as the greatest threats to the United States. He had two responses.

In the short term, the next 5-10 years, he said Russia was the most immediate threat. Their attacks on our sovereignty by exacerbating the discord in our country (and elsewhere) will continue and could damage the fabric of our society.

In the longer term, 10 years and further out, he said China is the greatest danger. Their continuous undermining of our economic system could reduce the U.S.'s standing in the world.

Regarding the outcome of Robert Mueller's investigation, I think you could be a bit more optimistic. Consider the results he's made already: the former Trump campaign chief is facing overwhelming charges; Trump's personal lawyer is up to his eyes in legal trouble; Trump's former National Security Advisor has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, (probably the tip of the iceberg of charges Flynn faced); there have been more charges and pleas from more people and entities than any other presidential investigation and in a shorter amount of time.

And still the investigation goes on. The dirt they are uncovering may turn out to be so powerful that we could see major political reforms when all is said and done.

I believe that Trump's corruption is so deep and nefarious that he will not skate. Not this time.

8. Because the prosecution gets one bite at the apple

This prosecution will be as much political as it is legal. Every charge, every allegation, every bit of evidence, every scrap of testimony, is going to be fly-specked by hordes of critical "analysts" of dubious credentials and credibility. Every close call, every questionable interpretation, every legal conclusion will be challenged, denied, and downplayed as being of no consequence. Millions of Americans will believe every word of the critics and the usual media outlets will billboard the critics wall-to-wall and 24-7. Even the media outlets who know Trump is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, beyond any doubt at all, will feel compelled to give the critics a hearing, even if the critics are clearly partisan kooks (think Devin Nunes).

This is going to be the political battle of the ages for the United States of the Constitution and the United States of our oligarch's dreams. And we have one chance to get it right, if we even can get it right anymore. I'm sorry that isn't working on your timetable, and I know it's frustrating.
