How do we prevent the line of succession from pardoning trumpCo?

Avenatti is a pretty smart guy who is convinced that trump will not finish his 1st term.

How do we prevent trump and his criminal kids from being pardoned (like Nixon was)?

My hope is that Pence the snake will be forced to resign as well, as his lies and involvement in the conspiracy are well documented. What about the others? The thought of trump getting away with his crimes is really disturbing to me.

1. State Attorney Generals of NY, NJ, maybe CT will have to do so based on state charges..

Previously reported that Mueller had shared data with (at least) the NY AG...

Those who live in NY should be lobbying their state legislature to remove the loophole (that Schneiderman asked them to remove) that would pose a "timing" barrier.

4. At the federal level, we can't "prevent" it, but we can punish it

There's no doubt that a new potus (whether pence or someone else) would have the power to pardon Donnie and everyone else.

We can't stop that from happening. But we can try to make sure that act has consequences.

It would be nice if there were severe political consequences for the pardon of someone who conspired with a foreign power to defy the will of American voters and steal an election. But it seems likely that the consequences will not be nearly severe enough.

It may be possible to threaten the next president with a criminal charge, however. If the election was stolen, then any republican successor has benefitted from the electoral theft. So one could argue that a pardon of a those who stole it constitutes obstruction of justice.

I don't know if this is a particularly strong case, but I think getting it out there as a threat might have some deterrent effect. A new president might figure that pardoning Donnie et al. isnt worth facing a trial.

in situations like this. A lot needs to be cleaned up with our rules. Tax disclosure and company divestment needs to be mandatory going forward as well!

You need to change the Constitution to do that.

Article II, Sect. 2

Section 2

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

6. Presidential pardons can't be blocked but,

they can only be given for federal crimes, not state crimes. That's how it works. So, anyone can be tried in state courts for violations of state laws. Governors, of course, can pardon those in most states.

It's just one of those things. Hopefully any pardon would be very specific to Russian collusion, if in fact he is charged with such a thing.

I'm convinced at this point that Trump is free and clear from Mueller with respect to treason or collusion. Trump will not be impeached for his blatant obstruction. Trump is going to have one hell of a time in state courts.
