(39,941 posts)Riley Duncan took the video showing the 8-year-old helping an older woman up the stairs.
Duncan said he didn't know the story when he pulled out his camera, but he saw the boy stop traffic, hop out of his car and help the woman -- and he thought it was a moment that deserved to be shared.
He later learned the boy's name -- Maurice Adams Jr.
Maurice was in the car with his mom and sister leaving high school graduation when they saw the woman crossing the road.

(85,353 posts)I don't have an issue with the tweet or your post. But it doesn't seem like such a big deal that a kid helped an old lady up the stairs. Seems pretty ordinary to me.

(11,689 posts)I am agog that this needs to be explained in the situation that we are in these days.

i dont find it all that ordinary in this day and age, and we can all use a little good news.

(12,079 posts)was left to wander into the street to stop traffic and help this older person. The phrase "child abuse' springs to mind.

(37,748 posts)At least The Narrative has dropped the "staged" allegation, and now moves on to simple petulance.

(5,202 posts)Instead of highlighting mistakes people make or capturing people at their worst moments, sending them viral and publicly shaming them.... what if random acts of kindness, accomplishments and volunteerism dominated the local news?
Kindness breeds kindness.
I love the story. Thanks to the OP for posting.

(30,547 posts)It's rare to see a child so young initiate such kindness to an older person and it's heart warming..

(12,079 posts)lift a finger to help and why was he filming an eight year old? Seems very inappropriate.

(63,221 posts)It's nice to see things like this when surrounded by this constant Goat Rodeo everyday. It gives you hope that not all is lost.

(11,689 posts)Perhaps it (the video) made social media and a reporter figured out the backstory?
Sometimes things are just nice. This video is nice.

(30,547 posts)I think it probably is, especially if the person they're helping isn't a relative or close friend of the family.

(1,302 posts)Assuming you're an adult are you really comparing your sense of civic responsibility to that of an 8 year old child?

(1,402 posts)Why isn't this splashed all over the headlines? It would be a gift to our society to see some heartwarming acts of kindness. All we get right now is Roseanne, Roseanne and more Roseanne and then her sidekick, DJT. Both are idiots and yet they get so much publicity. I am sick of the way the media will overlook simple kindness!!

(37,648 posts)That's what is so hurtful to our society and our co-citizens, when people like Roseanne & others try to dehumanize some people. Telling them in so many little ways that they are unworthy, "less than."
This young man did a very kind thing. I don't think many youngsters like to be around old people. But this young man...brings a lump to my throat.
Don't we all want the best for him and other young people? To grow up here with pride & dignity, and to have a happy life?
Getting off soapbox, now.
