(22,380 posts)He has a vast body of work. He is a favorite film maker. I can't wait for his next one. I saw "Where to invade next" twice in theaters, then bought it, made copies, handed them out like popcorn.
I am sad you dismiss him like that.
Where have you been?

(9,940 posts)I have lots of respect for Michael Moore and I hope he makes a great film about Trump and Rosanne. I'm sure it will be great.
But is a movie what we need right now?
Did Bowling for Columbine change our gun laws?
Did Sicko change health care? (well maybe it had something to do with Obamacare but that is being torn down now).
The fact is that we don't need a movie to tell us how bad Trump is or what an ass Roseanne is.
The people who like Trump aren't going to watch the film. They are busy watching Fox News which is going to trash the film.
There are only two things that are going to get us out of this shit hole:
Midterm elections, and/or
Mueller's investigation.
If a movie can have an affect on either of those things, then great. But a movie is not going to affect mueller and I am skeptical that a movie is going to affect the midterm elections. We already hate Trump and the other folks already love him and not much is going to change that. and between Russia and the insecure election system we have, I'm not sure voter turn out is even the answer.
I hope he makes a great film and I hope lots of people watch it. But my jaded self feels that we are beyond movies now. We already know how bad it is. we don't need to be convinced of anything.
we just want it to end.
I'm sure I"ll get flamed for this post. Someone will say I'm a Russian bot. Or a troll. The truth is i'm a flaming liberal hippie. And I'm just worn down and sad. I've seen Michael Moore's movies and they're all great. I am just not convinced that any film is going to change our situation or make Trump or Rosanne even blink an eye, let alone "rue the day they met him."
I'm sorry. Just being honest. Go ahead and flame me for being honest.

Get the Message out in a clear to understand format.
I think that the Trump administration's Rot is so deep that a easy to follow film will be a wonderful thing. This a an extremely complex investigation and clarity would be helpful.
They hate Michael Moore for a reason. (Smirk)

(9,940 posts)it will be great to get a concise explanation of what is going on, if that's what he's doing. I personally can't keep up and get confused with all the ins and outs of the russia investigation.
but my point is that it's not going to change anything. it's not going to convince trump supporters of anything. and it won't cause trump to "Rue the day" he met Moore. Like everything else, trump will laugh it off, make up another lie about Moore, and go on to destroying our country.

(37,748 posts)You appear to be under the impression he is responsible for solving the problems he merely points out, but the agenda is to foment discussion. A discussion which can be instrumental in affecting potential change, but is neither a catalyst nor mechanism for change in and of itself as you seem to believe.
Nor do his his statements, his sentiments, or his body of work deny in any manner or means the full force of the "Midterm elections, and/or Mueller's investigation."
That said, I would never target you with the oppression you expect simply for holding an opinion predicated on an inaccurate premise, regardless of how sorry you are.

(37,428 posts)He could probably start a chain of lemonade stands, or sell a calendar full of sexy Michael Moore photos, but making films is what he does. At their informative best, they help us garner the knowledge and courage needed to force change.

(5,770 posts)Sucess in the midterms will be determined by turnout, and especially Dem turnout. Getting the base Fired Up and Ready to Go is a big factor. MM can help with that. In addition, his movies are entertaining and often reach a larger audience than just the base. Independents may be influenced to get out and vote - for Dems.
CrispyQ
(36,446 posts)to what really went on in election 2000, & the vote up to the Iraq war. Before that movie, even in my liberal pocket, it wasn't really cool to speak out against Bush & the two wars. After that movie, people started speaking out. But that was 14 years ago & things are different now. I don't know how to end it. If we don't kill hate radio/Fox news, oh hell, it may be too late anyway, what with the internet. People can now fine tune their media/news input to reflect their exact beliefs & fuck reality.
That said, I think "Where to Invade Next" was a fabulous movie that is underrated, possibly because MM was having health issues during it's release so it didn't get much PR. If you get a chance to see it, you should!

(46,314 posts)If anyone Googles "Michael Moore Lies" they will get right-wing sources, obviously.
But not all of them.

If you want an example of a great documentary, watch "Hearts And Minds."
It showed just how racist and stupid the Vietnam war was, and they did it just by letting the "leaders" hang themselves with their own words.
Ken Burns makes great documentaries.
Michael Moore makes "Me me me me me me!" films that are far too often deceptively edited.
But, I guess, if James O'Keefe does that, he (deservedly) is condemned.
Michael Moore does that and gets praise.
