1. Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that ...

Why would you want one of these without the real HAL voice...

5. I would!

In my way of viewing the film, HAL is the hero, not the villain.

4. Sign me up!

I have the cute classic Star Trek red communications panel that ThinkGeek put out before. Makes the wooshes and sounds when doors open. I've got it set up next to my front door and anytime anyone comes in they're surprised but they realize what it is and love it.

6. Going to see the 50th anniversary print of 2001 tomorrow.

First visit to a theater in about six months. Have the DVD but 70mm viewing is the only way to see it.

14. 50th ??!!???

How space time flies.

I have to say, some of us have walking around dazed and confused for 50 years still trying to figure some parts of the movie out.

Unforgettable, certainly.

15. I was about 12 or 13.

Lost In Space and Star Trek was what I was used to. Thought I was in the wrong theater when Dawn of Man came on. Baffled by the sudden jump to 2001. Confused when the intermission appeared, almost left the theater. Ending was incomprehensible. Saw it years later and thought...WOW! Great music, great visuals.

Nice summary by a teenage student Margaret Stackhouse. Kubrick himself thought it was the best analysis.

Thank you for that story. Have shared it with others. Now I want to see the film again, thru the spectrum of 50 years of life experience.
