Actress Sally Field has the perfect response to the controversy over Sam Bee calling Ivanka a c*nt
Actress Sally Field weighed in on the controversy surrounding Sam Bees c*nt insult towards Ivanka Trump by taking it a step further.
I like Samantha Bee a lot, but she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a c*nt, the actress wrote. C*nts are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest.

(8,311 posts)I don't object to hearing it in the context of visiting women's collectives where they're discussing books titled that about getting past the shame given by millennia of men afraid of that organ and its functions to embrace the power of being the gateway of life.
Or (that much) on Game of Thrones, because it's usually a guy calling another guy that, or in one memorable scene, a woman calling a guy that. Maybe I skipped over any scenes of the reverse where it wasn't obvious that the male using the word to a woman in a derogatory fashion is Not To Be Emulated. I think they did have Arya use it against the Waif, but to be fair Arya'd had too much time with the Hound. And the Waif did end up trying to kill her.
Outside of a show filmed and apparently at least partially written in a country that doesn't have the same connotation of the word here, and obviously feminist without attacking other women in the process use....
If we have a word that literally still is the worst thing you can call a woman, that reflects on her womanhood in general by its derivation, and is one that dehumanizes her to being merely her anatomy, there may be times when one's emotional reaction to heinous things women, particularly mothers to very much already born and home from the hospital and onwards children, do makes them think of that word.
Even me. I really don't want to go into details about why that's the only word that summarizes my opinion of a certain female I'm acquainted with, but the reasons my emotions are so strong that's where my mind goes are because her actions have harmed her daughter psychologically so much that I want to kill the woman. "Bastard" used to be probably the closest equivalent "worst word to call a man", but there's no universal "worst word to call a human being". And sometimes, there are people who trigger us that much to wish there was.

And I agree with the previous comment that this is a strong woman helping to "reclaim" the word by pointing out the true attributes of the organ to which it refers.

(1,185 posts)the equivalent of calling a man a dick?
forgotmylogin
(7,539 posts)Interesting how calling a male (or a female, for that matter) a "dick" doesn't carry the same stigma.
I'm not advocating the c-word as a derogatory term, but I find it amusing that calling someone a dick implies they are bothersome, invasive, unpleasant, but the term as a putdown generally doesn't carry the stigma that dropping a c-bomb does.
There is no "third-rail" term for male anatomy. "Bitch" has been in some respects taken back and owned by women with a potentially positive connotation similar to "nasty woman" - a person who gets what they want regardless of other feelings (which is wackily an admired male trait) though applied to man can imply derogatory ownership. "Pussy" even isn't quite so strong - generally being used to imply "coward" or "doormat" for either gender, possibly conflating both the "receptive" and "feline" inferences. The closest equivalent with the same baggage is the n-word.
Being compared to a penis isn't as shameful as being compared to a vagina and it shows how hung up the US is about female sexuality. Other countries don't put the same shameful connotation on the word "cunt" and use it in a similar nongendered fashion similar to "dick" or "bitch".

If someone thinks gender, race, political affiliation or religion are contexts that make it OK for one person and not for another, they are part of the problem.
