(17,984 posts)Now I take 10mg melatonin and 50mg diphenhydramine HCL before bed. I still don't sleep very well. Pot is expensive, and I'm not allowed to smoke in our townhouse anyway (also, the neighbors have three tiny kids, so they might be averse to my smoking pot when it could blow their way). I thought getting exercise would help, but no. I've come to realize that I just need to chill out about getting sleep every night. If I get only a couple hours one night, I'll make up for it the next.

(51,623 posts)I have been an insomniacs for my whole life. My combo of Diph. HCI, Ambien, and smoking indica allows me to sleep for 4 hours, then I have to do a repeat. I just discovered that vaping hits me harder than smoking for some reason, and it is more economical. I am cursed by this.

(11,564 posts)...I have some experience in this area. I am NOT a fan of trying to fix my life - or a facet thereof - with a pill bottle but it is a very important facet, and nothing else works. Or, rather, when I found this worked, I quit looking.
When I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, my doctor prescribed amitriptyline - an SSRI. In higher doses (like triple what I take) it is an anti-depressant, but at this dosage (or less, for some people) it is quite an effective sleep aid, and has a fairly long-lasting effect as a pain-reliever, too.
The linkage of insomnia to fibromyalgia is not well-understood...sort of a chicken-or-the-egg thing...but it is working fairly well for me. Without it, I sleep miserably. 4 hours is a good night, and that will erode from 4 to about 1 or 1 and a half. With it, I usually get about 6, which is not too bad. Once a week, or fortnight, I get 7 or 8.
It is touted as non-habit-forming, and here, at least, pretty cheap. I buy it several months at a time, so the exact price has slipped my mind, but I think $8 or $9 a month seems right. If you have somewhere to be in the morning, you might have to allow for a longer waking period, which is kind of a downside - the meds hangover. For me, it is worth it.
Talk to your doctor - it might help you, too.

(17,984 posts)I've been on it for eight or nine years. It's been long enough now that I can't remember if it helped me get to sleep in the beginning or not. I'd bet that it does do at least a little good even now (less anxiety, better sleep). I tried something else that was a prescription. I can't remember the name of it. It knocked me out but left me really groggy the next day, so I stopped taking it.
Trust me, every few years I go on another search for better sleep quest. Things that work for a couple weeks lose their effectiveness in the long run. I've just learned to deal with one or two nights in a row of insomnia. Fortunately, I can usually make up the lost sleep sometime later in the week.

(7,813 posts)I tend to develop resistance to drugs very quickly so I have to bounce around between allergy medicine, Nyquil, melatonin, valerian, and a couple beers because each of them just doesn't work more than twice in a row.

(63,221 posts)next you were just dead to the world. I took some one night and was on the phone w/ a friend and he said all of a sudden I just dropped off the line. The same thing happened to me on a plane where my travel partner said I was up and chatting and then I was suddenly out and un-wakeable. I just didn't like that kind of drastic shift. There was no gradual feeling of drifting off to sleep for me, it was very sudden and I remembered nothing.
I still have sleep problems and have been offered the drug a few times by doctors, but have refused. It kind of scares me.
That's all the explanation we need.

(7,725 posts)its my thought that covfefe was a signal, or a hint, or a sign to do something. He's paranoid about using the phone bc he knows how he taped everyone and their sister on his. AND they're a lookin at him real closely. He's just that stupid.
